For starters the serial number for slims is different to fat
I had a friend who tried it ages ago never worked.
The guy who came had a clip board with 160Gb slim
He had a fat 60Gb
Far too easy to see
Nice try but do you think sony that stupid or any company ?
If you want a free warranty best bet would be if your in the UK use sales of good act prove it had a fault to start with.

Well it doesnt hurt to try it out. I mean what is the worst that can happen to you if this doesn't work...they don't give you another ps3? I guess it's worth the try...thinking of what he said he seem to know what he's saying. It's not something one would post without actually having it done something like this before.

I think I understand, So basically if you give sony a call, and then ask them for a new ps3, give them a friend's ps3 slim number (located at the back of your ps3's) and then a man will come over to your house and you will get a new ps3 for your old ps3 even if it's fat, they will replace it with a brand new 120 gb model?
