i think you mean patented because you cant copyright a thing only like a picture/song/saying. but it could be likely it was patented but they could change it a little so its not exactly like xbl party chat and call it something else than party chat.
and yes i also saw that they were thinking of a "new chat feature" but thats all i heard and that is a great article you found for OP
