(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Sony has broken another promise, originally they planned to restart the PSN network this weekend as per their previous 'press releases' earlier this week, but were quickly forced to delay the re-launch of the PSN and SOE networks as the previously rumored 'third wave' attack did infact start to appear tonight!

This time, the still unknown 'hackers' started their 'third wave' attack by accessing an old unused Playstation website from 2001, and publishing what they found on other public websites, a complete list of all the contest winners with over 2,500 very detailed personal information, it not known at this time if more attacks are still coming in against other Playstation websites.

Sony spokeswoman confirmed with Reuters that relaunching within the original expected time frame would not be possible, and there is no firm date for the return of online services.

The latest note from SCEA senior director of corporate communications Patrick Seybold on Friday night said, "When we held the press conference in Japan last week, based on what we knew, we expected to have the services online within a week."

"We were unaware of the extent of the attack on Sony Online Entertainment servers, and we are taking this opportunity to conduct further testing of the incredibly complex system," he added. "...Additional comprehensive system checks and testing are still required, and we must complete that process before bringing the systems online."

Sony is also reportedly considering offering a reward for help in catching the perpetrators of the cyber attack, according to Wall Street Journal's All Things Digital blog, which cited "people familiar with the matter."

The reward may or may not be implemented, the report said, as Sony executives are weighing the pros and cons of such a move, which would be made in coordination with law enforcement.

In trying to stop this new 'third wave' attack, Sony shutdown more of their servers, and are now thinking of 'offering a reward' to bring these trouble-making 'hackers' to justice, as Sony has had no luck in tracking them down for almost a month now!

Companies with more worth then sony have also had measures fail them or not be enough. And they did pay for it much like financial institutions have around the world have.
Like i said and you missed it

It a lesson to all companies this

"Just hope people see the scale of the problem and it not just sony own fault but a failure within companies view on data. Build it cheap and don't patch holes when they appear."
Hope the last bit means any holes found are patched within weeks not months much like many companies do now. Just for cost reasons

I see a company trying to get a hold on a major hack into it network telling us information as they have it. Sadly this means delays are things take longer then they want.
Tells you alot they have outside firms working on this too.

Other hacks like this people not been told till months after sony days after. Once they had found out the scale of the problem. I can justify that sony told us when investigation was completed. And turning off the network. What i can't justify is why people are hating on sony for following by the book how to deal with this.

Hope the new measures in place are enough to avoid this.

I agree with most of what you said here, but my issue is with the time frame and the apparent lack of readiness for this situation. Yes, I know that you truly can not be ready for something like this, but actions and statements that Sony has made in the last 3 weeks are not best practices for a company this size. I would be interested in what company you are referring to that has handled a situation like this, and as poorly as Sony has.

Excuse me, but Sony didn't break any promise because they never promised anything. They expected their services to be up this week, but that wasn't a definite.
