We all know Sony is loosing tons of money due to the outage not to mention the game makers. I doubt many people are buying Socom, B.O. or LB2 when there's no online. Any time a corporation looses money the end user always ends up paying for it. I just wanted to post up and see what everyone else thinks on this. Sure, Sony may give us free dlc when psn comes back online but in what ways down the road so to speak do you think they will try and make their profits back?
Sony carries insurance for this sort of thing, so they will not lose as much as you might think. Usually the policy covers a good amount, and then the company is responsible for losses incurred above the policy. Sony is also a 27 billion dollar company with many divisions including SOE/Playstation, but they are among the smallest. The hit to Sony is not as big as you think. However, they will (as good business do) prove to wall street that this incident has not affected their earnings. They will do this with very subtle increases spread across all their business lines, so the consumer does not really feel the blow. This is usually how large corporations spread out losses (not to mention the tax write off that they will leverage form the losses of the PlayStation division.) IMO
