Since the new 3.61 firmware for the Playstation Network, you're required to change the password of your account in order to get online (this is if your state / region is online). Remember, you MUST have a working e-mail that can receive notifications.
Step 1.) Sign in by using your (real) e-mail & password to your Playstation Network account. Once again, your e-mail MUST be real!
Step 2.) Select the 'Change Your Password' option after 'logging on', once you've done this, just follow the steps as you regularly would.
There are a few problems that you may encounter along the way:
If the screen for entering your new password doesn't pop up, this means your account hasn't been activated on Playstation Network using that account. If that happens; Sony will send you an automatic message to your e-mail, where in that message it'll take you to the Playstation website, to change your password.
If you've forgotten your password, you have to change it on the Playstation website.
If you've forgotten your password, then click the 'Forgot Your Password?', then you'll type in your e-mail associated with that account & your date of birth, & for the third time, IT MUST BE A REAL E-MAIL. If the e-mail isn't real, it'll give you an error. Then all you have to do is access your e-mail address & follow the steps in the message.
If the PSN account you're using is a sub account, you may be required to first sign in using the master account that governs it to change the password.
