(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); E3 2011 - Sony's press conference

Sony announced that cross game chat will be available between the PS3 and PSVita (NGP). However they didn't say if it can be used just between PS3 users, they only said it would be available for PS3 and PSvita users so that people can talk, no matter what game you're playing or what platform you are on.

But my question is that I don't see a reason why it shouldn't be available for PS3 users only, like that you could use Cross Game Chat to chat between PS3 users only, and not that you the other guy will have to be using the PSVita. If they don't put it like that, and they only put it that it will be available to chat between different platforms, then I think Sony is just playing with us.

From what I've seen and read, it will just be an PSVita feature so that they can chat with PS3 users.

Q1: Is it because of RAM?

Yet they still can make cross game chat on PS3? if it wasn't possible like you're saying 'because of RAM' then it wouldn't be possible to put it 'cross-platform' which at the end, it is the same thing but just between different platforms, but still will be cross-game chat running on YOUR PS3, using it no matter what game you're playing.
That's why in the thread I said, that if Sony don't implement this feature so that it can be PS3 to PS3 and/or PS3 to PSV cross game chat... they are just playing with us customers.

Q2: Is it because Microsoft owns the patent of cross game chat?
I don't think so, because then they wouldn't be able to even make it possible for the PlayStation Vita.

Q3: Is it because they don't know to do it?
Again, it is already on the PS Vita... it is more like they don't listen to customers, on every new firmware (except the security ones) they bring a new feature... and notice that that feature is never the one we ask for, or the one we really need or want. It is always a random feature.

Leave your comments below, and tell me what you think.

I thought it was that, but once they proved they could do it at E3... I don't think that's they problem anymore. Read above post (#20)^

I doubt the RAM is the issue as PS3 and Xbox 360 hardware is exactly the same except PS3 has one hell of a CPU and 360 GPU has more "pipes".

Also the PS3 has 512MB(2x256) ram like the 360 and I'm pretty sure more than 256MB of RAM is used in games for Xbox 360. Also the PS3 rams is clocked at 3.2Ghz where as Xbox 360's is clocked at 700mhz.
So yeh PS3 has 256MB ram for the XMB/PS3 OS but if Xbox 360 can do it with the same amount or less ram then so can PS3.

The in game XMB may have to be redesigned/redeveloped to allow XGC buts its possible. On Xbox 360 you can't access the full Dashboard in game but you get a smaller and less CPU/Memory hog UI.

Heres a quote from a guy who knows what he is talking about

We have all seen threads where people compare the overall power of PS3 vs 360. However, lets just focus on the RAM for now, since both consoles can be easily bottle-necked by their low RAM. With the Xbox 360, you have 512mb shared between the CPU and GPU. If you play a game which requires more focus on CPU and less on graphics (such as a RTS game), then this would be a great advantage, since the CPU can take up like 70% of the total RAM if needed to.

As for the PS3, you have 256mb dedicated to CPU and another 256mb dedicated to GPU. You have the same RAM in total, but the CPU cannot "borrow" some of the GPU's RAM if it needed to, which could be a disadvantage for some games and make it harder for developers. However I am sure the PS3 has faster RAM to compensate.

Not possible unless their users know how to solder.

Might as well wait for ps4 if you are talking about upgrading.
