Is it on 3.55 FW? If not, you cannot simply replace the Blu-Ray drive and expect it to work. The console was originally "married" to the original drive. I have a feeling that is your error. Do you still have the original drive? It may just need the laser replaced.

if you still have the original drive just replace the circuit board from the broken one to the new one. Dancing

Yup, That circuit board is the logic board, which is actually what is married to the console. That is why the laser is replaceable, and the logic board is not. It can be re-married to a new console that is running CFW.

You are correct. I was posting from my phone with Swype and got nope instead of yup.

I have a ps3 on 3.55 cfw and its missing the blu ray drive the logic board is is hooked up though I can install pkgs fine but when I try to open them they leave me at a black screen until I reboot my ps3. Is it because I need a blu ray drive or the logic board is bad any way to know if board is bad?

Most likely it is only your lack of a drive connected to the board. You can find one on ebay pretty cheap.
