So does that mean my hd is pretty much f??k?d so can I just replace it and should that fix it and can I find any cheap ones. Thanks

When you say safe mode do you mean recover mode?

try this. But all the data on the drive will be lost.

On geting a new drive just check Ebay just look for a SATA 2.5 laptop HDD they all fit ps3's just check the speed is 7200.
check your old drive should say the speed that it runs at. Hope that help.

yea your hdd is sometimes when you shut off while its still running a process it will corrupt due to it is trying to close and run that application at the same time resulting into a corrupt hdd

The stock hard drive in the PS3 is 5400rpm. A 7200rpm drive will work, but the gains are marginal due to other bottlenecks in the PS3 system.

A 5400rpm will be cheaper.

Very true. I would like to try a solid state drive but like you said I don't think there would be much improvement plus there very pricey.
