You may think that Sony is successful when it comes to sales due to being one of the biggest video game publishers in the world, but the truth is that they have failed to produce number one game titles such as Gears of War and Halo published by Microsoft for the Xbox 360. The only game that made a decent run for it's money was the Gran Turismo franchise, other than that, nothing. Sony has noticed this problem and is putting it into consideration for the reasoning behind poor sales.

In a recent interview with You must login or register to view this content., they asked why Microsoft's Gears of War 3 sold more copies than all Playstation 3 titles combined, Shuhei Yoshida confessed that due to so much game development, the money they had stretched marketing funds and didn't put enough focus on advertisement:

"It’s a combination of many things. First, we have to be very honest about our games’ quality as well. We love our games, but we can point out many issues when you look at the titles individually.

Another thing is focus. When you have ten games coming out in a year compared to two or three, how much focus you get from our business and marketing side is very hard. From a portfolio side, we were very excited about the games we had last year, but we probably diluted support for each title."

Later on in the interview, Yoshida then was asked if a possibility for Sony was to slow down on producing games. After talk about the topic of Sony's fondness of new IPs, he commented himself on how they should develop less titles and spend more money supporting them:

"It’s easy to say, “Yeah, let’s make three games a year.” But game development is dynamic. You cannot plan to do that. You already have to have a certain number of games in the pipeline hoping they hit in a certain year. We love working on new IPs. It’s really hard to predict when these games get finished.

It’s a challenge, but I think we could and probably should be focused on a smaller number of titles so each one gets the best support."

Titles such as The Last Guardian, which has an enormous lack of sales, after being stuck in development for years, is an example of the problem Sony is facing. Another title, Resistance 3 was a decent hit, although it failed to reach one million sales, leaving Sony's idea to publish a number of quality games is failing as well.

Another thing to put into consideration, is the Playstation 4 coming nearer and nearer, it's hard to tell what Sony should do.

Do you think they should keep developing so many games and not advertise as much? Or are you agreeing with Yoshida, with the idea to develop less games and advertise more?

I did not say it was government. Video game magazine say a game is going to be out on a date but is not out to weeks later just go's to show you not to go around copying things that are total bull crap even if you email Sony and ask them about this they well tell you the same thing.

Delays happen all the time, with everything.
These websites/sources that I use are reliable.
And newspapers mostly consist of articles that have to do with the government somewhat, even if it isn't direct.
And we all know the government keeps major secrets from the public, as for video games, why lie?
I'm not speaking of this anymore, it's a trusted magazine/website + game development company & we're getting a tad bit off topic.

Yeah, it was exaggerated, haha.
They've released a lot of titles, so I'm guessing it was more than 2. Winky Winky

Wasnt Socom one of their best selling games? In my opinion if they listened to the community that game was a straight up Gears of War and Halo killer! I still play it to this day!
