You are putting a PC in effect into a very small space it going to get quite hot.
As to how loud they are meant to be no idea......using a slim and don't hear it at all.

It has atleast 2 feet space around it, and has nothing at the top or the sides, its in the open. I start up my ps3 and play the game and the rom just makes alot of noise loading the disc and the noise it makes when the disc spins.

That just the blue ray reading the disc.
Not much you can do about that sorry to say.

^ I believe that a 40Gb fat PS3 with space around it you see it still gets quite hot. It quite a small area to put a computer into. Even with space around it the heat does not disappear that fast.

He wasn't asking about the space.. (Not to be rude). What he is saying is you are putting something into a compact package it is going to make noise. For example I own both a slim PS3 and 360. I had both fat versions which ran much quieter than the slims, that is until they were on their deathbeds.

They reduced the amount of plastic thickness and other shit which is going to to help reduce the noise.

The ps3 super slim is louder than previous consoles, not down to the fan but due to the blueray drive only having a thin bit of plastic between the drive and the outside. Previous models the blueray drive was built into the middle of the console so you were less likely to hear it. Your not the only one, as i have noticed this when playing on the ps3 super slim although i wouldnt sayits loud enough to disturb my gaming or watch a film
