Should I connect my PS3 directly to my modem (Virgin Media) or to my router (still need the wireless for the laptop)?

Your unable to connect it to PS3(I have an O2 one which i cant work directly to PS3) you have to use the laptop as a bridge then get an ethernet cable connecting to the pS3

If you need to connect your laptop to the internet then hard wire into your router. Just make sure that you have your router settings set so the PS3 has unlimited access. Set it in the DMZ and make sure you don't have any IP conflictions or you'll lose your PSN connection

You talkin to me?
If you plug it into your modem, you won't be able to use another ethernet cable to connect to the internet. A router takes in all connected devices (along with WiFi devices if capable) and routes them all into one cable leading to the modem and then to your coax cable. I guess the only advantage of plugging it in directly to the modem is having the best connection without any other traffic going through.
