I have read/write access to the entire system memory, and HV level access to the processor. In other words, I have hacked the PS3. The rest is just software. And reversing. I have a lot of reversing ahead of me, as I now have dumps of LV0 and LV1. I've also dumped the NAND without removing it or a modchip.

3 years, 2 months, 11 days...thats a pretty secure system

Took 5 weeks, 3 in Boston, 2 here, very simple hardware cleverly applied, and some not so simple software.

Shout out to George Kharrat from iPhoneMod Brasil for giving me this PS3 a year and a half ago to hack. Sorry it took me so long Smile

As far as the exploit goes, I'm not revealing it yet. The theory isn't really patchable, but they can make implementations much harder. Also, for obvious reasons I can't post dumps. I'm hoping to find the decryption keys and post them, but they may be embedded in hardware. Hopefully keys are setup like the iPhone's KBAG.

A lot more to come...follow @geohot on twitter

You guys think this is good or bad? I think its great, bring on the homebrew Happy

Still pretty sad that anyone would do or get excited about this?!...It's not normal to take video games so seriously that one feels the need to cheat in them !

Well, I presume this is going to lead to people having No Clip/ God mode etc. which is certainly classed as cheating, unless you're living in a different world to me . But i'll stop posting if it's going to lead to people like you and my previous quoters getting angered because someone like myself shares the opinion anyone who lives a relatively normal day-to-day life outside of video games would have!

Quit your batchin' about cheaters what he has done has nothing to with cheating its all about gaining access into teh fort knox of consoles lol and doing things to it that were never intended to be done by sony like having full access to the gpu under linux and being able to re-enable all the spe's under linux just think of the possibilities this could lead to.

I never even mentioned Modern Warfare 2. I'm not being an idiot, I just see it from the point of view that this person has spent valuable time he could use to be with friends and people he actually knows in real life rather then communicating with people he'll never meet in real life. Hence, why he more than likely doesn't get any!

read the origional post. sony will probably not be able to patch it
also i didnt say anything about connecting to anything
being able to play a 360 game on a ps3 would probably only need software
who really cares if it can connect to xbl when most of the games you would want to play online are alredy on the ps3
