(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Hey there, ive been thinking of this for a while now, i dont really think that the hardware in the new PS4 will be that great considering the specs ive read on the internet, i mean they will be better then the PS3 but what im hoping is that once the PS4 is released after a year or 2 they release another PS4 like they usually release a smaller more efficient version of the console, what im hoping is that instead of making the console smaller, they make it "better."

What i mean by better is that they "upgrade" the parts, seeing as they're turning the PS4 into a type of PC with the parts, I reckon they should update the PS4 in order for game developers can enhance the games they make even more with better graphics. Now im not a graphics driven gamer, i prefer gameplay over graphics for a game any day, but i wouldnt mind them upgrading the parts if they end up selling an "improved" version of the PS4 because they inevitably will most likely will & sticking with the whole PS4 is like a PC situation, they could upgrade the parts (GPU & CPU etc...) so you're not paying for basically the same PS4 you already have apart from a bit more memory.

What are your thoughts though? Do you agree with me, or are you not too fussed? love to hear what you think. Smile

EDIT: After re-reading what i put, i forgot to mention that this is speculation and not to be taken as literal, what i mean by that is, the idea would be cool, but clearly with all the certain complexities involved in doing this it wouldnt be ideal, never expected this to happen, but some must of thought that i ment it as that it would happen, i thought it would be a cool idea, but nothing else, hope this clears things up. Smile

im sorry but i really don't think you can just swap components around in a game console like you are hoping for. im not an engineer or designer but highly doubt it. either way if i buy a ps4 at launch and its as good as we are hoping, i sure the hell aint dropping more money on a newer one unless a miracle happens and it gets jailbroke lol.

I understand what you mean, but the architecture of the PS4 is more like a PC so i reckon it will be do-able, if not im not fussed, it was just an idea in my head thats been going around Smile

Wont happen as launch ps4s need to be compatiable with later ps4 games, even if newer models of the console are released. Upgrading parts wouldn't allow developers to make use of them as otherwise the game then wouldnt be suitable for stock versions of the console where it wouldn't run correctly.

Thats the good thing about console gaming. You know its going to run correctly and properly on the hardware you've got without having to buy a new GPU every 5 minutes. If your after cutting edge graphics and performance then PC gaming will always be the 1st choice.

You don't understand how the console market works.
You release one set of hardware which devs play with for a certain period of time. The reason less bits of hardware they devs have to code for which means you can get a bit more out of the hardware.
Spec wise it middle range right now but should keep at that point even if the hardware does not for 3-2 years longer compared to PC.

Steam box is meant to come in a couple different setups, with upgrades over time. May see this happen with console sooner over later but not sure it's going to happen.

PS3 is 6 years old. 360 is 7. PS2 got pronounced dead not too long ago. Nuff said.

I believe a new gen console is necessary for the gaming public, besides the graphics, it is because what the new things the console can offer. If you check, the consoles have the same specs, from the Fat to the Ultra Slim, the only change you will find is the Hard Drive.
Furthermore, YOU CAN'T EVEN THINK about creating a console with changing parts, it will be UNFAIR for anybody, that is why some people choose consoles over PCs because we all have the same specs while playing.

Cant agree more with OP. It would be awesome if you could upgrade the memory say from 4gb to 8 or put in a new faster graphics card. Sure you wouldn't be able to buy whatever, sony would have to control the upgrades you could use, but have having that option would be awesome for later games. Surely it wouldn't be too hard to improve performance without causing compatibility issues with earlier PS4 games.

well i love to have both graphics and good gameplay, but one of the best components to have in a console, is power
