That's one thing Microsoft has that makes them better, the ability to change your ID name. Masking your ID won't be good enough, because it would mean to add someone you need the ID still (if it's some random letters because what you wanted was taken, then you're pretty much screwed, you'd need to remember that), the mask is just what people will see when they look at your profile. So your whole friends list can have masked names and everyone have the same name?

If you think about it, Sony should have made a new network for PS4, if updating the original PSN isn't possible. And with the new network, they could give randomised IDs that's unique to each user, and allow user's to have their own PS4 Network Names (the mask) which could be changed. And work just like the original PSN names, where no one can have duplicates. And with the added bonus of changing one's name, the old name gets erased from the network thus someone else can have it. So no more unused, old, etc. PSN names.

Would that mask work for online multiplayer?

Because I thought that the "real name" was only visible to you and to people on your friend list. Even if I set my name to John Smith I doubt that's what the rest of the world would see, unless they are friends with me.

I'm very happy with my Online ID, my doubt relies in keeping it or use my real name or fb name dunno how they will make that. If via FB Data or PSN Data

Sony should allow the ability to change online IDs if you pay.
