So this means that all those purchases you have made previously will not work on Playstation 4, well at least at launch anyways. We kind of already knew this but there was a small part of me that hoped Sony would have it worked out for launch. Maybe the cloud streaming service that Sony recently acquired will be able to store this content and allow you to have backwards compatibility this way.

It has been previously confirmed that the streaming cloud based service from Gaikai will hit Playstation 3 and Playstation 4 sometime in 2014. It’s currently unknown whether your current game library will have to be purchased again in order to use the service, or if a discount scheme will be offered for games you already own. Does this mean that we will have to wait till next year for backwards compatibility? Many consumers could be very fond of their current generation consoles and will probably be won’t be willing to trade them in just yet, so we can’t really see the wait for backwards compatibility being a big issue.

What do you think about PSN purchases not working on the PS4, Is backwards compatibility important to you?

yes but his inquiry was if putting the disc in would allow him to play via the cloud service again the simple answer is no because either way the PS4 is not backwards compatible. =D
