My friend's PSN was "mommasdoubleds" and basically they suspended him I'm assuming after he hit a certain amount of grief reports and he had to call them and on the phone they changed his psn to a new one of his choice. he picked a dumb name again but that's besides the point. he kept all his trophies and all his ranks and progress in everything.

Nobody ever said they couldn't. It's just 99% of the time they won't. Is Sony capable of name changes? Sure, why wouldn't they be. They just don't want to give users that privilege if nothing else.

No your thread is good though. It proves that Sony can do namechange if they really wanted to. Never had I heard of a user getting his PSN changed for any reason

I have heard of another case of this. If you have your name in your PSN, they might issue you a new name.

I can say that they do change usernames. Mine was reported for being offensive and I had to call and change it. The problem is I lost all my trophies and game data.

This is most likely the reason they dont offer the feature for the general public. The drawbacks would be too much.

you can call them and tell them your name has personal information in it and that is the best way to get your name changed

But you lose your game data and trophies. Not worth it.
