If you have read my other news, you may have seen that i am really looking forward to Skyrim and i have only posted good news about it. However i read an article earlier about why Skyrim may have many problems in fact.....

The UI and menu system

You must login or register to view this content.

It appears to be rather clunky and annoying. It seems like you will have to continuously pop in and out of submenus to view equipment, skills etc. It has been describes as 'pure sex' and 'really cool'. Just because it is in 3D doesn't make it cool, most likely it will take far longer than a menu where it is a list and nice and easy to choose your weapon.

The dumbing down of my RPG

I have not played that many RPGs in my lifetime but Skyrim will only contain 18 skills. If you compare this to a game such as Morrowind (which i never played) it had 27 skills, or even Oblivion, which i loved, had 21 skills. This trend seems to be following in most RPG's yet growing in other genres such as FPS's. Games seem to becoming more streamlined and story based now, i love playing games where i can go anywhere and do anything i wanted to.

However maybe the developers are focusing on improving the 'useful' skills and dismissing the 'useless' ones, in which case is great in my personal opinion!

Level-scaling

During an interview with G4TV, Todd Howard (director and executive producer at Bethesda) skipped quickly over level scaling and stated that it will be more similar to Fallout 3, some areas will have low level mobs, other area having higher level mobs.

Minimum specs from the future

As with all big future releases that are based primarily on PC, the minimum spec requirements are likely to be very high. You need a brand new computer to run the game on high settings. Running it on low just sucks and is like playing a 5 year old game (trust me, i tried with Falllout: New Vegas).

This may infact hamper Skyrim's sales level if a large proportion of fans will not be able to run the game.

Third-person view slo-mo ‘finishing’ move videos

I'm guessing most of you watched the 14 minute video of Skyrim gameplay at E3, if not view it:

As he takes out the last wolf, it shows a slow motion finishing move. This may be for demo purposes purely, or perhaps an optional setting but i for one do not want to have slow motion finishing kills. It was bad enough with VAT on Fallout 3, i turned that off.

No minimap

The minimap is a small map that is normally in the top left of the screen. Previous Elder Scroll games have always used a compass instead of the map which can be confusing at times. The map markers and quest markers on Oblivion were too similar and i often ended up heading in the wrong direction. A map is much clearer and easier to follow. Yes i know there was one in the menu but i am too lazy to look, so much easier to glance at the minimap.

Where’s my inventory comparison info?

There seems to be no option to compare your currently selected weapon with one which you may want to pick up/equip. You will have to find and equip weapon, possibly worse than the original weapon which you have to go back and equip. This is more of a nuisance then anything.

Unproven Third Person view

Bethesda has always sucked with third player view options, with oblivion and fallout series. First person view was the set one and third seemed to be an extra that wasn't focused on as much. The character was slightly off centre and the running animation wasn't the greatest.

This game may still be another 4 months away but ever since the hype started 6 months in advance of the release i have become hooked on the game. Everything i have seen of gameplay and interviews seems to be amazing and faultless. Of course there are going to be bugs and faults in the game but my expectations are extremely high. However this means that i have much more to lose if the game is a disappointment, but it will not be!!!!

Even with 21 skills in oblivion half of them were just pants. If you wanted to complete the game easier, it had to be the tried and tested "being a sneaky bastard with a bow an arrow."

N'wahs With Attitude
- The UI and menu system

Actually looks cool unlike most of the shit other games spew out, and doesn't actually look complicated or confusing at all IMO.

- The dumbing down of my RPG

I'm glad they removed some of the pointless skills. Honestly who wants to have a skill level of 100 in Acrobatics. We're playing a ****ing RPG not a gymnastics game.

- Level-scaling

Don't fully understand what you're getting at here. All you've stated is a point, ok... they said that enemies generally level up with you but there are areas with harder enemies than others. How is that a bad thing?

- Minimum specs from the future

I'm sure your PC could handle it, and if not, upgrade your PC. Or just be a retard and play the game on PS3 or XBOX.

- Third-person view slo-mo ‘finishing’ move videos

Don't particularly understand why they brought this feature in but it looks cool regardless.

- No minimap

Minimaps suck. Pointless and take up too much space IMO. All you have to do is bring up the map from the menu, not that difficult. Besides, I'm sure someone will create a minimap mod.

- Where’s my inventory comparison info?

Meh, I guess. You can still see the item stats so I don't see the real problem.

- Unproven Third Person view

Third person has been greatly improved IMO.

Will be back tomorrow and edit my post with other shit but right now it is 2AM and I'm tired. :fa:

no offence but a lot of these points are no good points buying new pc if your pc cant run this on minimum then why are you buying the game if a pc is at least 3 years old it should play this and how the menus look thats a horrible reason to complain when its taken what 4 5 years to make this game you pick at little details that a fan of a game wouldn't care about Winky Winky

The UI is NOT finished. They are GOING to put a comparision screen.

honestly i think the compass they have in oblivion is a much better idea than a mini map. a mini map would just take up to much of the screen and i dont know how you go the wrong way trying to follow the compass in oblivion, the markers are clearly visible and easily stand out.

In all honesty, I just think you're either too nit-picky about games, or don't like change.

Skyrim looks perfectly fine to me, regardless of if it's just like the rest of the series or not.

Little One
But you see, Oblivion got boring fast, i found i could play Oblivion for about 3 hours and get bored and think why the hell am i still playing this? (Oblivion is still an amazing game) With Fallout 3 I could play it for Ages 5 hours + And not get bored of it! So i think bringing in Fallout Similarities into the Elder Scrolls Series Is a great idea =D
