Right now, I have someone who could sell me a used xbox 360 with the falcon chip, manufactured in 2008, with a 20gb HD, HDMI connections, a controller, and all other necessary cords, all for $100. This console isn't banned from xbox live.
I could also get a brand new Jasper xbox arcade for about $160.

Would $60 more be worth the difference in the price for a slimmer chance of getting the RRoD? Even if I kept the falcon out in the open?

Does anyone know the difference between the fail rates of the two chips, or have any advice on which one to get? Thanks

Might have more fail rate , But has better exclusives and is better online.
So go for the 100$ one , But buy a warranty

well your better deal is the one with an HDD since you need an HDD in order to get online b/c in order to get your arcade online you will need 50 for the year,and about 100-120 to get an HDD and if your going to use wirless internet and cant use a labtop to bridge connections you will spend another 100 for the adapter for both systems...now if your worried about failure then the arcade is the way to go the fail rate for a jasper 360 is equal to the fail rate of the PS3(dont ask where the info came from i read it like over 2montsh ago i think its was N4G.com)...if i were you i would wait till i could spend around 400 dollars and get myself an elite bundle and a year of live or for 280 off ebay its an elite with all the accesiories 3 month warrenty and year of xbox live but its a refurb and im not sure about the chip but im almost positive its the jasper

As for the OP, I would go for the $100 version. That is extremely cheap, and you could fix RROD if (when) you get it.

I already have a PS3, I'm just getting an xbox to play with my friends who have xboxes

Get the jasper xbox also buy a clip on fan for the back of your console it helps alot
