doesnt matter if it goes past 4.0.1. I jailbroke my iPod which is 4.2.1 with redsn0w

But isn't it harder/blocked to downgrade it from 4.1+?

I have an iPhone that I'm trying to unlock, but the unlock doesn't work on the baseband I have.

I'm pretty sure that if its an iPhone 2G then there is not even a 4.0 version available for it(correct me if i'm mistaken), But doesn't the 2G iPhone only go up to firmware 3.1.3? In any case, if you update to that version, you can do it with the spirit jailbreak.

Okay, but honestly no one has actually told me how to downgrade? I tried to Downgrade my brothers iTouch recently and when going to put it into 3.1.2 itunes was "verifying the update version" and rejected it every time. I want to make sure i can update to 4.0 safely and be able to have it UNLOCKED (because i dont use a valid SIM card i use a phone with another carrier) So that is the big thing is ALSO being able to unlock it past the INSERT SIM screen ...
