honestly besdies the footsteps its just a lot of conveiniant. Like you can properally hear ppl and they can properally hear you, this counts as a big thing in my books. if you have thhe money, its worth getting them.

No. Not even close.. Headsets can pinpoint locations while surround sound is based on where you place the speakers yourself and then with distance and everything it gets messed up.

Obviously campers don't really need headsets now do they.

And I have my surround sound positioned perfectly, I can tell exactly where anyone is and I've tried Turtle Beaches, I've tried about 4 different mics (On Xbox, not on PS3, though that wouldn't make any difference) and I've got to say that surround sound is much better. All my friends agree too, 4 of them have ditched their headsets for the exact system I have.

Anyways onto this thread, Headsets are surround sound speaks in case you didn't know that and all the mlg var, circut and professional gamers prefer headsets to surround sound, which sorta indicates them being better cuz if your gonna do something for a living.. you need the best eqip.

And btw, i still stand by my campers don't need headsets or surround sound for that matter. You probably find surround sound effective because if your that stationary its easier to soundwhore thus a lower quality of sound and skill is required.

I just use the one that comes with my xbox I want a turtle beach.

The advantages of headsets are:

1. It doesn't disturb people around you.
2. For FPS games, it makes footsteps easy to hear.(nice and clear)
3. Saves you a lot of money instead of buying 1000 £/$ of surround sound system.

The only downside of headsets is, it will make you deaf if you don't use it properly (setting the volume to the max to achieve maximum eargasm) /facepalm

You don't need a 200$ headset or whatever they cost these days. I use a normal PC headset and they're pretty good.

the purpose of a headset (mic) is so that you can speak too you're teamates, and help each other throughout the game.

You don't disturb other people in the house.
Even with cheaper sets ( 80.00 US for PX21 or some others ) you directional hearing is vastly improved.
Not just footsteps but defusing in SnD, claymore plants,and silenced weapons.
When you're spectating a freind I've told them which direction someone is approaching from on several occasions that they were unaware of.
They are not going to suddenly turn your KDR around but they will increase the number of kill streaks you can get in a match. On average they get me 3 to 5 extra kills per game, especially when I'm trying to extend a killstreak.
