I just found this a little while ago.
In the very first mission of the campaign, you eventually get to the pit. Run through the pit once, and then walk through the gate to start it again (like retrying pretty much), but turn back around and begin walking up the stairs once the timer starts again. WHILE WALKING UP THE STAIRS, shoot an automatic weapon (this prevents you from putting away your weapon, apparently.) When you reach the top, you should still have your gun out. (BTW, I like using the G18 Machine Pistol on the table for this)
Walk further out, more towards where you began the mission, and just shoot. You get a defeat for something that I'm assuming is for shooting in the camp. However, Infinity Ward's devs apparently forgot to add the localization for the defeat message, so instead you get a pretty error message as your defeat.
I know this is a useless glitch, but it just shows how much IW was lazy and didn't finish their game and/or check for bugs/glitches.

In correction to my first post, what causes you to keep your weapon out mostly is reloading. So, shoot, and reload before you hit the top of the stairs, before your gun goes away. Also, it works on the first run through the pit, I believe, not just the second.
Jeez everybody, every first person shooter as complicated as this as just as many glitches, if not more. There's just so many more people playing MW2 that more of the glitches are found.
All of u, shut the **** up, ok nothing is perfect, I died in mw2 on wolverines by a sentry blowin up! There are some defects in every game! That's fact so no point arguing bout it
ok the way it works is every game has glitches whenever its released and the game developers are aware of this but they focus on the glitches that make the game impossible to finish so most of their efforts are put towards those glitches and with a deadline that must be meet makes it very difficult for them to catch everyone. so im sure they know that its there it just wasnt a high risk glitch just a minor one cause apparently everyone that bought the game can beat it
Wow, way to overreact to what I said... And no, they didn't really do a thorough check for bugs and glitches, nor did they have a thorough beta. if they had, the javelin glitch, many of the elevators, this new nuke glitch, the pavelow glitch, etc. would probably have been fixed before the game even came out.
And, no, they did not technically finish the game. There are unfinished game modes on the disc that they hid because they weren't complete.
And don't pull that "I would like to see you better" crap, as I'm not a game designer. Of course I wouldn't be able to do any better.
