1)Attack Helicopter has got no flares
2)Harrier has got no flares
3)Pave Low has got 1 flare
4)Chopper Gunner has got 1 flare
5)AC130 has got 2 flares

But I see on a regular basis harriers and attack helicopters shoot flares. Sometimes even more than one.
Unfortunately I don't have a capture card, so I never bothered to record matches, but I swear I've personally tried to take down a Harrier with my stinger only to have it fly up to 3 (three!) flares, so I had to reload with scavenger to take it down.

I believe that only happened once though, but most often the attack heli and the harrier do fire 1 flare, sometimes 2 (I think harrier only).

So what is the deal with flares? Are those killstreak rewards supposed to release flares, or not?

This pisses me off, because in most matches your team (when you play with strangers) will never switch to an AA class to take them down, so not only I have to kill myself to switch because the team is getting butchered, but then I also have to waste precious time to take them down because they will release those stupid flares even though they are not supposed to (and in some maps you will get killed a couple times in the process, because it can be hard to acquire lock on them).

The air support will shoot a flare into the sky that re-directs the missile trying to hit it. The flare acts as a shield

I've seen that happen before.

Someone posted a video of it it happening to some kid on Afghan, he said he was going to sell the game because of it.

there are no flares for the harrier or attack heli...

if you have proof i'd love that because i shoot stuff down all the time, especially the easy ones (harrier and attack heli) and ive never seen flares ever.

Another reason im sure they dont have flares is because in real life, pave low, appache longbow (chopper gunner) and ac130 really DO have flares. a Hind (attach heli) and a harrier do not have flares

Don't think it's a flare, still quite a good video to show that you aren't always able to shoot down harriers.

And as for Harriers not having flares in real life...

Oh ive never seen a harrier drop flares in real life. But in game they defineitly dont have any. In that first video, theres clearly no flares. as i said earlier, they sometimes miss once in a while

yes they do miss its just a random occurence and i have shot 4 stinger missile a harrior once(i kill my self after i use all my ammo) and al 4 have missed its just a random thing that happens once in a while on all mobile killstreaks.and the ac130 has 3 flares ive seen 3 stingers go at it (1 at a time of course)and it has shot out flares each time

I miss every once and a while with my stinger.

its funny how most people don't try and take those things down. Either my harrier is shot down in two seconds or it kills a ton of people. no in between sometimes.

I have no personal experience with this. But, IF the harriers do drop shell casings it may be possible that the missle is locking onto them as they we're part of the harrier @ one point.

Or I could be chaff. It practically does the same thing as flares, but it's more of a powder than a heat source.
