my friends list thing does the exact same thing. has for as long as i can remember

it's because you have too many messages phaggot. delete all sent/received and it will be fast again. also happens when your friends list is full, so if it doesn't get any faster - that's why.

I've had the same problem for the past three updates, and to a far worse degree. If I press triangle, the game freezes and stutters to the point where I have to eject the disc out of the tray or reboot the entire system. I don't even bother using the in-game invite system anymore. If I need to invite, I just press triangle on friend profiles directly from the XMB itself, which is bothersome. The MW3 experience seems incomplete without the daily crashes and freezes, doesn't it?

Yeah bro what Diji said NBS said !! Delete all received and sent messages on all users ! If you got alot of users on your PS3 delete the useless ones !!!

Why would you blame that on the game? It's more than likely an issue with your console.

I always get this problem since the first day I got this game. It is just some lag nothing to worry about just wait and they will fix it.
