The specs on your desktop and laptop are actually fairly similar, but your desktop is slightly more powerful.
There are people here suggesting you illegally download an operating system (Windows 7). I do not recommend illegally downloading anything, its illegal, you can get caught, even if you use a VPN and/or proxy you could still be caught (depending on your ISP). There's a variety of moral issues as well. Furthermore, it's probably an intentionally or unintentionally flawed system, and because its illegally acquired you won't be able to get support for it. Realistically, its not the way to go, pirating a single piece of software, while still bad, doesn't have as many potential issues and vulnerabilities that a pirated operating system will.
I'd highly suggest you look into acquiring a legitimate, paid copy of Windows 7, its not that expensive. If not, I'd suggest you switch to a Linux operating system, its really easy to use and a lot faster and more secure than Windows.
