(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Hi NGU community, I have a Dell Latitude D520. And every time I turn it on it turns right back off. This happened for the first time Tuesday of last week. And it's been happening all day today. When I turn it on all the lights turn on and the fan comes on as well then it shuts off. Please help

U can take fan out and it would still work. Bios would give a warning and u would have to hit F1 or F2 to continue. So no its not the fan. And no a hair dryer don't get hot enough

Uh come again? If there isn't a CPU fan detected no motherboard is going to allow the machine to boot. You will hit the post screen, it will show you an error and then promptly shut off. Where are you getting any of your information from?

If something incorrect with hardware is configured your computer should beep at the BIOS (usually).
Does it make it to OS boot?
Try using a direct power source, etc.

No it doesn't boot at all, when you press the power button. All the LEDs come on for about 5 seconds then it turns itself off. The screen is black during the whole process. And I realized that my fan isn't supposed to come on until it picks up heat.

Try cleaning out your fan or adding some thermal paste to the processor.
Sometimes it can get clogged or lose connection to heat sync.
Bios then shuts off due to failure.

Also, try checking out to make sure your ram is correctly installed.

HAHA i have forgot to plug fan back in more times than 1 and the bios always said something, IT WOULD STILL START. i wouldn't recommend to run it nor will it run for that long before it overheats,
hell i have no fans hooked up in my computer to the mobo and my bios cries every time i start it up, (cpu fan has failed it is recommended that you shut down bla bla bla) i hit F1 to ignore and continue booting

I bought some thermal paste, if it doesn't fix my issue. Then I'm going to buy a motherboard for it. I appreciate the help guys.
