Making something illegal make people want it more because the fact that they think they're "cool" for doing it. I live in England and I'm 18. I can get beer when I want but I don't. I don't get 'hammered' every time I go to clubs with my mates. I've been around beer for a while. I was aloud to have some when I was like 13/14 on occasion. They all added up and now I don't see a big deal in drinking. If you can't have it you want it more. It's like weed. That's an illegal drug and look how many people have it to look "cool" or whatever. If it were legal do you think so many people would go mad over it? Probably not. In my opinion, if you are allowed to have a moderate drink when you are say 11 (like wine or a beer with a meal, but not over doing it) I don't think that there would be as much binge drinking as there is now. You would get used to it over time and not see the big deal with it. As soon as people who haven't been exposed to it in their youth are able to buy it, it's like a new craze and they go mad with it. So if anything, I would say lower the age to 18 to buy it (for the countries who need to be older) but be able to drink it in restaurants and pubs with food at like 11 but only have a moderate amount. I could guarantee that in about 5 years or so that would cut binge drinking. It seems to work in countries with lower age limits and countries where you can have it with a meal at a young age.
