If you can serve and fight for your country, you should be able to come home and have a beer.

You guys decide

I've been drinking since I was 14/15...here in Ireland nobody makes a big deal over drinking...it's just a bit of fun so I don't see why America's so strict about it and with ID and shit...

Like anyone really goes by the age limit. Everyone knows that 90% of teens have drank alcohol by the time they're 17.

18 is, in my eyes, the time when an individual gains his or her independence. A majority of people move out of their parents home when they are 18, and like Luke said, upon turning 18 one can even leave to partake in the military.

If 18 really is the age of independence, then lowering the drinking age to 18 really isn't that big of a deal. Though I don't support people who drink until they drop, a mere three years is not going to change anything. Those who want to drink will drink when they can, and in the end whatever results are to come will be the same as if the person began drinking at the age of 18.

The age to join the military in the UK is 16, does that mean you think the UK drinking age should be 16?

If 16 is the equivalent to 18 in the United Kingdom, then I see no reason why not. Again, let me express that I completely don't support people of young ages drinking, but when someone becomes allowed to go and live their own separate lives away from their parents, they should be given the rights to drink.

When you leave your parents, you basically become a trusted member of society. If you are trusted, then you should be trusted with all of the liberties of being an adult.

You can move out at 16 here, yet can't drink till 18 or drive till 17... figure that one out.

I personally don't think that makes much sense. There are likely reasons behind it, just as there are likely reasons why the legal drinking age is 21.

I'm perfectly fine if the ability to drink at 18 remains illegal, because I don't plan to begin drinking regardless. It just doesn't make much sense to me as to why you're given certain liberties at certain ages.

Everything should be at 18 IMO. Driving should maybe be higher, I know people at 17 who are as immature as 10 year olds.
