To and fro the island.
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); So this year, after completely Honors English I, I will be entering Honors English II. Like last year, there is a Summer reading assignment that I will have to complete by the end of the Summer (before the end of the Summer, actually).

I'm simply looking to get somewhat of a feel for the books I have to read, and want to see if any of you have read them, and what your thoughts on them were. The two books I have to read are as follows:

  • The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger
  • A Separate Peace by John Knowles

Thanks. I've already found a few things.

Between 1961 and 1982, The Catcher in the Rye was the most censored book in high schools and libraries in the United States. In 1981, it was both the most censored book and the second most taught book in public schools in the United States.

The Catcher in the Rye is a wonderful book, I'd always heard so much about it, so I decided to give it a read a few years ago. The writing is great, as is the story with some pretty puzzling events, right up to the last page. Salinger is a genius, it's a shame he died 2 days before my birthday, earlier this year.

I'm glad to hear it. I'm thinking of reading that book before reading "A Separate Peace", considering all of the positive feedback I'm getting on it.

I've never heard of the other title, but I'm sure it's a good read also, just not as well known. I can't imagine them picking a poor book for an Honors assignment.

I read A Separate Peace a couple months ago. I actually quite liked it. I didn't read The Catcher in the Rye, nut I heard it was really good.

Yeah, based on last year, it seemed they always provided quality reads, and didn't give us something that was utterly boring. That's one of the best things about honors English,

That's great! I'm, to some extent, kind of getting excited to read these books considering everyone seems to think they're all good reads.

@ Vanitas: Great to hear. Smile
