To and fro the island.
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); So this year, after completely Honors English I, I will be entering Honors English II. Like last year, there is a Summer reading assignment that I will have to complete by the end of the Summer (before the end of the Summer, actually).

I'm simply looking to get somewhat of a feel for the books I have to read, and want to see if any of you have read them, and what your thoughts on them were. The two books I have to read are as follows:

  • The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger
  • A Separate Peace by John Knowles

There are some books that are actually good but sometimes the way it's written bores me to death. So it's kind of about personal reference as well, the story itself was decent I just couldn't get into the vibe of it.

Ah, we had the same thing here. I had to do "In Cold Blood" and "The Catcher in the Rye".

I honestly never do these assignments until this last minute, and I also don't try in school and still manage to scrape all A's. I would be doing AP Language next year but I am Dual Enrolling instead (Junior Year in High School).

Haxor!
Hi everyone

I liked Les Mis, not only the book but on Broadway as well. It's kind of a tough read, but well worth it.

Angela's Ashes is also very good and a quick read.
Angela's Ashes is an outstanding, yet depressing, book that everyone should read. Les Miserables is a classic. The Count of Monte Cristo is a great, great book. I think you will really like it. The Count is wronged by many and systematically exacts his revenge for it. (I know it's required, but it is great.) American Gods is fantastic. I can't really say much more, but it is wonderful. If not that, then I'd say Don Quixote or Angela's Ashes, though I have not read all the books on the list.Moll Flanders comes highly recommended, too. It's about a woman and her unbelievably complicated love life and her rise from and descent into poverty and crime. Don Quixote is about a man (who is off his rocker) and his delusions. I really liked it. I also liked Angela's Ashes, which is very dark and sad but also uplifting...a poor boy struggles through his impoverished childhood. Tom Jones, though a classic, is a little difficult to slog through. Just type the name of the novel and synopsis after it to read summaries of the other books. Best wishes!

Thanks
