BEFORE ASSUMPTIONS ARE MADE, READ THE POST.

EDIT: Perhaps I should change the discussion. Rather than cite the forum as a whole as totalitarianistic, let's refer to the "hierarchy" of this site. Once again, I'm not implying a thing. This is only a discussion, open to many things. i.e. If it isn't a totalitarian site, what is it?

First off, I just want to express the FACT that I do NOT want any flaming in this thread. This is a discussion, a debate... not an uncivilized argument.

I realize that I may get a lot of shit for this, and in response to that I would just like to point out that just because I may have pushed the topic does not mean I'm implying anything. This is all a matter of opinion, and surely your opinion will differ with someone else's, in which case you should not try to insult them. An opinion is an opinion, and everyone has the right to one.

In the event of which this thread has to be closed due to the constant flinging of petty insults and pointless arguments, I understand. However, if the thread is closed without any rhyme or reason, I will not.

Be reasonable, be nice, and be understanding.

For reference, totalitarianism is when the state of things strongly coincide with that of authoritarianism, and usually under one person's rule. The ruler (dictator, actually) gets to govern and regulate everything, and no other individual gets to voice their opinion, rendering it impossible to make changes with the people, for the people, and by the people.

Of course, I mean it more lightly than this. Obviously this site isn't completely totalitarianistic (if it were) to the fullest extent, because it's not actually possible for it to become one. (i.e. we CAN leave whenever we want.)

Let the discussion begin.

Totalitarianism is defined as "a political system where the state, usually under the control of a single political person, faction, or class, recognizes no limits to its authority and strives to regulate every aspect of public and private life wherever feasible."
You must login or register to view this content.

I'll give you an example. If Outsider is the dictator of the forum, he would control EVERY aspect of the forum and the community. He would control the auctions (or trade), vBux (economy), the infractions (law enforcement), etc. Obviously, this doesn't happen. We have a staff team that enforce the Forum Rules. We don't control the trade or auctions, we only place rules and enforce them. If I would define the type of forum we have, it would probably be a republic.

Feels more like a leaderless Oligarchy than a republic.
For one, most republics have a judicial branch.

I'm sure there are google references to what an Oligarchy is.
There are many forms of wealth and power, but it always resides with the few and without redress by the many.

But the reality is, it is just a gaming forum, with a lot of people who volunteer time.
They or anyone else are free to leave for another forum of their choice.

Thanks a lot for your input, The Bumble, Luke and everyone else. As I've said before, I was not at all implying anything. I just wanted to see what other people thought.

I myself do not totally believe that this site is totalitarianistic (in its strongest meaning, at least), but a lot of the members and a few staff members are totalitarians. Maybe not at all politically, but personality-wise. They don't listen to anything anyone says, even if the statement thoroughly proves them wrong. A lot of people on this site would rather have things work their way, and I suppose I was referring to this more-so than the site as a whole being an authoritarian-esque'd website.

P.S. - I know totalitarianistic is not a word, it just best suits the discussion. :P
