WARSHIPS patrolled the Sea of Japan and Patriot batteries were set up around Tokyo yesterday as North Korea counted down to a missile launch intended to challenge President Barack Obama as he attends the G20 summit in London. Two Japanese guided-missile destroyers set sail under orders to intercept the Taepodong-2 if the launch goes wrong and it threatens to come down in Japan, a key US ally. North Korea has said any interception would amount to an act of war.

Kim Jong-il, the North Korean dictator, has hinted that if the missile is destroyed, his country will strike back violently, conduct a second nuclear weapons test and ruin years of American disarmament diplomacy.

North Korea, which conducted its first nuclear test in 2006, maintains that the Taepodong-2 is to launch a satellite into space for peaceful purposes. The US and Japan think it is a long-range missile designed for atomic warheads. Experts say the missile could be fired any time from today, although the North Koreans have set a date between April 4 and 8.

The launch has become a test of American power, according to one of the most senior foreign policy advisers in China. The US and Japan “will be bankrupt in reputation and dignity” if the missile violates Japanese sovereignty and is not destroyed, said Professor Zhang Lian-gui, of the Central Party school.

His comments, in an official journal, showed how keenly Chinese leaders were watching Obama’s performance under pressure. Obama will have his first summit with President Hu Jintao in London this week.

American and Chinese ships recently clashed in the South China Sea and the two nations exchanged angry words about a Pentagon report on China’s military build-up. The Chinese have refused to persuade their North Korean ally to call off the launch and are standing back to see how America and its allies deal with it.

The potential for error on both sides is high. The missile’s planned trajectory takes it soaring into space on an arc that leads across Japan. Previous North Korean missiles have exploded in flight or veered off course, and the US antimissile technology has not been perfected. Tokyo’s sophisticated Aegis vessels, the Kongo and the Chokai, which carry SM-3 interceptor missiles, were sent into the seas between the Koreas and Japan yesterday morning.

They will be joined tomorrow by two US Aegis destroyers, the USS John S McCain, skippered by a Korean-American naval officer, and the USS Chaffee. South Korea has sent its own Aegis destroyer, the King Sejong the Great.

On land, Japanese units deployed the latest Pac3 Patriot missile batteries to protect political and financial districts in Tokyo yesterday. The public was asked to stay calm. The Americans are also ready for the risk of a North Korean revenge strike across the border with South Korea.

On February 11, Kim demoted his chief of staff, General Kim Kyok-sik, to command the Fourth Army Corps in a move that may have been a strategic deception.

The corps guards the western coast, a tangle of islands and inlets where the border is disputed and where bloody naval battles between north and south claimed many lives in 1999 and 2002.

The state media announced that the outgoing chief of staff had also lost his seat in “elections” to North Korea’s rubber-stamp parliament. In retrospect, that seemed too simple. North Korea jealously guards its internal secrets and rarely discloses such a fall from favour. It may have been intended to deceive.

Analysts now suspect the “Dear Leader” may have deliberately placed the trusted man he wanted to command the west coast in preparation for another fight. The posting came less than two weeks after North Korea warned that it was scrapping all its accords with the south and would not respect the maritime borderline.

Read History books and Russia and World War I? What the **** does this have anything to do with anything?

World War I -> 1910's-ish.
World War III -> A hundred years later.

I mean, in a hundred years, a lot could happen.
Three more billion idiots sprouted in the world - you including.
People believe that 'Hope' could save an economy.
People continue to believe in religions.

I mean, the list goes on.

Russia and the United States aren't best friends, and both of them have their own sources of military power. Apart from Nukes which are a bit all-over. Spetznas has been known to dominate any SOCOM / Green Beret or any other special-ops people. They aren't exactly secret either. When Spetznas comes around - they'll **** up everything and everyone. You don't **** with Spetznas - it's even quoted by the Green Beret's:

Green Berets are not hardcore fighters. They are trained by the US Army to train foreign forces--not fight them. In my mind, they are overrated. Dont get me wrong, Spetsnaz are badass but Green Berets are not trained as well as other special forces.

Have the Spetsnaz fight Navy SEALs, Delta Force operators, or MARSOC Marines--elite American units designed to fight combat forces--then we can talk.

History repeats itself.

Napolean invaded Russia in 1812 when he had the whole world in his hands. He could have taken over everybody but was not suited for cold weather wars in Russia.

Hitler invaded Russia(at that time the Soviet Union) in called Operation Barbarossa in 1941. Russia did not want to fight at that time and Hitler could have focused his energy on Britian, France, etc and the world could be a different place today. But, like Napolean, he invaded Russia and was not suited for cold weather battle. The Soviet Union sustained high casualties but ultimately defeated Hitler.

Over one hundred years later, Hitler repeated the same mistake that Napoleon did. "billions of idiots sprouted in the world - you including" in more than one hundred years from 1812 to 1941....

WWI was a pointless war from the start. Gavrilo Princip, a Bosnian-Serb student, assassinated Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria. Austria-Hungary delivered the July Ultimatum to Serbia, a series of ten demands aimed at diplomatically undermining Serbia. Serbia did not comply, and Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia in July 1914. The Russian Empire, unwilling to allow Austria-Hungary to eliminate its influence in the Balkans, ordered a partial mobilization one day later. Because Russia mobilized its forces and the Germans knew war was upon them, they declared war on Russia.

The Triple Entente: United Kindom, France, and Russia were allies
Triple Alliance of Germany, Austria-Hungary, and Italy were allies.

Because of these alliances above ^^^, there was an all out war--WWI. WWI was started by an assassination of two meaningless countries. If the major countries chose not to intervene, there wouldnt have been WWI.

This has direct parallels to today. If we invade North Korea--a meaningless country and could be taken over by any foreign power--and Russia backs North Korea just becuase they are communist; were are in a world of shit. WWIII.

Or if you look at the Korean war, if we invade North Korea, and China backs North Korea like it did in the Korean war, not only do we have to face North Korea and China--we have to face Russia also becuase Russia and China are allies.

That hope was a symbol of Obama--much better than that George Bush guy we called our president.

China won't back NK up if there is another war. The main reason they did in the Korean War is because they were afraid of the US invading them too. Same with Russia.

North Korea can't start a war, even if they do have the fourth largest army in the world. Their GDP is too low to support all those troops. It's like me picking a fight with a UFC fighter, but the UFC is starving and I am full of energy.

Russia isn't communist, they haven't been since the cold war(or since the Soviet Union) BUT they are ran by a broken(mob ran) government.
