(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); So, opinions on prostitution? Should it be legal or not? Maybe only under certain circumstances? Yes/no?

This topic came to mind as I saw a program on TV, 2 female police officers(UK) pretending to be prostitutes then subsequently arresting the "customers". Surely this is extremely unfair? Opinions, please Smile

Still, this is just a blind assertion with no statistics to back it up, and it's still completely irrelévent because we don't ban things based on how much damage they do to public health, if we did alcohol, tobacco, motor vehicles, fossil fuels, food with high fat, suger or salt, contact sports, anything spicy... they'd all be illegal.

I believe media plays more of a role than anything else in the banning of things - to provide an example look at marijuana being made illegal. When it was banned, all the newspapers ran articles saying how bad it was for you, even without all the research to back it up.

Anyways, I highly doubt prostitution will be legalized anytime soon no matter what just because it is socially unacceptable by the majority of the population.

Actually that's where you're wrong. Public opinion is changing particularly in America where 54% of 18-29 year olds support legalising prostitution currently, and only 41% are against it according to a pew poll. It's only people aged 40-55 who are overwhelmingly against it.

Politically speaking the new generation is very different in USA. Only 30% of them go to Church. 54% support legalising prostitution, 63% support legalising cannabis, and 57% consider Socialism a good thing. The winds of politics are changing. Don't be so sure about what is socially acceptable.

You can't just ignore the older generation, they still have a say. Notice how I said anytime soon. It's a possibility in the future, but not at the moment.

True, but remember that every year that passes more 18 year olds are appearing with the right to vote, most of them liberal with a good opinion of socialism and social libertarian ideals concerning liberty. At the same time, the older generation is dying as people tend to do, and even if they weren't they're still going to be outnumbered. Remember, the opinions of the 18-29 year olds now can be expected to be reflective of the national opinion in 2025, and that's not that far away.

Legal
Only under certain circumstances

If women want to sell there bodies for sex they should do so within a safe environment and allowed too. With the police working with them to make sure there safe.
When brothels are allowed it becomes safer for the women.

I forget where brothels became legal but they found it was safer for women and easier for the police.
Saying that EU and UK it legal but you can't run a brothel Smile

I found this thread quite funny, because I'll be moving to the Philippines (ughhh fml! Thank God its only for a year) in a couple of months and the Philippines is well known for prostitution.

I don't have a source, I was quoting from memory from an internet radio show I was listening to last night. I did find a Young Turks YouTube video though where they're discussing the similar pew poll results although the figures aren't quite the same so it might be worth checking out the Pew Research Center website directly and looking at the exact results here - You must login or register to view this content.

Here's the video though anyway.
