Today we are making history in California by ensuring that our textbooks and instructional materials no longer exclude the contributions of LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) Americans

Teaching gay history in schools could go either way. On one hand, people just might get educated and in return reduce discrimination, or it could increase discrimination because most people just wouldn't care.

I don't particularly understand to how this will help the 'gay community' I suppose it would teach people that gay people are normal and it may decrease the level of immaturity and discrimination towards gay people. It's just I don't see why they have chosen gay history, if anything they're labeling gay people to be other than the norm.

I would understand if they were to introduce gay topics into subjects such as sex education, but this just seems to jeopardize the gay community, and doesn't really help. I don't know, maybe it could reduce discrimination if people are educated about gay people, as it will come but part of everyday life, but I don't think this is the best of approaches.

Edit: Some of the comments in this thread are just stupidly ignorant, you have no reason to hate gay people. It's quite clear that most of you are just like everyone else; jumping on bandwagons to fit in. You're clouded by other peoples opinions and concerned what people will think of you, that you don't even have your own view on the subject.

If this should be taught in school, so should gaming. This is NOT history, it's a lifestyle choice that people nowadays should just respect and leave it alone. No need to make an important impact on our nation with this. It's only going to attract hate and stupidity.
