(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Hello everyone,

now this is really a mix between a potential discussion and a question.

I am very keen when it comes to working out, I go to the gym 4 times a week and try to go for as long as possible. I recently started taking supplements and a friend of mine who is a personal trainer told me to start off with a supplement called CLA (Conjugated linoleic acid). It is a non-essential fatty burning acid which allows you to burn more calories for longer, aiding in fat loss and muscle growth. In short it is supposed to give you a lot of energy.

Now I'm almost at the end of my months cycle and I'm not noticing anything on a daily basis at the moment. When I first started taking them I felt like I was full of energy, but now I just feel normal. It has me questioning the supplement and considering if its a placebo effective drug.

here is a detailed summary of what the placebo effect is:

That's the gist of the placebo effect. It's what happens when a person takes a medication that he or she perceives will help, although it actually has no proven therapeutic effect for his or her particular condition. The medicine or treatment itself is known as a placebo, from Latin for "I will please." There are a few different types of placebos. They may be pharmacologically inert, meaning that they contain no active ingredients. These types of placebos often contain basic ingredients like sugar (hence the term "sugar pill"). Medications that do have active ingredients but aren't proven to work on the patient's particular condition can also be placebos. There have even been placebos in the form of surgery, injections and other types of medical therapies. Some people believe that complementary and alternative medicine count as placebos, too.

a short sentence to sum it up: it's a fake drug that makes you think its "curing" you, but really it does nothing, and helps you get over what ever you're suffering, mentally.

Now the heart of the discussion is, do you think I'm under the placebo effect? Or is the drug actually working? Because there have been many positive results since I started, and I know many people that say this helped them very much when they wanted to achieve the same thing.

I'll put it bluntly, when I use to work out I loved laughing at all the people taking supplements and protein shakes, it doesn't do ANYTHING for you except make you either constipated or dehydrated.

Honestly you don't need supplements to get big, plus most of that shit doesn't work it's just a big hype. All you need to do is just eat a lot and intake a ton of calories and obviously keep it healthy. I'm sure you can find articles on the internet talking about how supplements do nothing but clog you up. And make sure you stay hydrated and drink a good amount of water.

As long as your diet is good and you're training hard you'll bulk up, that is a certainty.

As for the placebo effect, it's definitely a thing. There have been many studies that show that it actually helps things along. Even in the case of serious medical conditions, the thought that you are potentially getting better helps the process along. If it's putting you in that mindset that you're improving, it's easy to stay motivated. Let's be honest, if you don't think you're getting results are you really that likely to put the effort in?

The fact that you are oblivious to the chemical amuses me. Go read up, sonny.

They do work if you aren't getting enough protein in your diet; not enough protein = less gains.

My obliviousness? I'm sorry, even though I took Chemistry and Organic Chemistry in college but whatever. Like gizmo said, if you don't get enough, it won't do any, but there also comes a point were any additional intake will pose no benefit, this happens with all forms of vitamins and minerals, although for the most part any additional intake poses no risk. And yes it does help you to pass a drug test. A simple piss test can be passed with a regiment of Creatine and Niacin (Vitamin B3 in case probably didn't already know,) ask any stoner.
