The question I want to open for debate, is Should marijuana be legalized and is it really as bad as the media portrays it to be?

I didn't open this thread for idiotic responses, I want cold hard facts as well as any experiences that may help the topic. My personal feelings are that marijuana got black balled and it is less harmful than alcohol and cigarettes. I also feel like legalizing marijuana (in the United States) would benefit the entire nation and could potentially get us out of debt, if taxed by the IRS properly.

Please let the debate begin, and remember, no flaming or insulting anyone, this is a debate not a flame war.

well, its not bad at all and i don't see why it shouldn't be legalized. cigarettes are way worse and can kill you. everyone says weed kills brain cells but they have no proof because it does not. i don't smoke weed but i wouldn't care if it was legalized, with limitations of course, just like alcohol. Alcohol is legal but to a certain extent. The same should be with weed. Legal to smoke for enjoyment, but no driving, all that stuff.

firstly, i am sorry to bring this thread back up but secondly this would not bring an economy boost. as much as i would love to see this become legalized it wont because the goverment makes more money off of people getting caught with it then they would selling it because if it was legalized the only money the goverment would make from it would what it makes on taxes where as how it is illegal right now each time they catch someone smoking it they make around $150 and if someone is caught selling it they can make up to $5,000 dollars. which is much more than they will make off of taxes, just think about how many people get caught daily or weekly it adds up.

I think thats the only reason why they dont legalize it. Its harder to tell someone high behind the wheel than a guy that is drunk behind the wheel.

The reason they dont want to legalize and tax it is because theres nothing that stops people from just growing it unlike alcohol (lol) and cigarettes. Also like rou said they wouldn't be able get money from fining people like they do now
