Personally I think I should have to take classes only pertaining to what my major relates to. I shouldn't have to take classes like French Literature if my major is Business. That's just my personal opinion. What do you think? Should there be an hour requirement?

college is a business, they need to make money

why do you think when you transfer to another college they make you take classes that you've already taken again, its not necessarily because their university courses are better, but because they're trying to get the most money out of you that they can

Regardless, don't you think they would still be able to find a course more relevant for me to be able to take instead of having to take a liberal arts class like French Lit?

I'm not sure how wasting money on you learning useless classes is actually going to save them time or money, the point that I think they want to make is they want to make sure that you have had an education in other fields. Now, I can understand taking some extra math, computer or science courses, but forcing you to take French Literature? That's not even remotely relevant frankly.

Your at the same point I was last year... I was pissed that I have to take a hand-full of classes which are unrelated to my degree. I seen the practicality in some of the classes available ( if I was able to get in; they were often full, leaving useless classes). I was so irate about it, that I did a research paper on the cost of college, and main argument was the cost of a higher education is ridiculous thanks to those "gen-ed" courses.

I mean the college I'm going to already costs a butt-load, could give two fucks less if I succeed ( have been a couple, instructors who cared) and finally require textbooks which are specific to the school and not the course.

It's not the hours that matter, rather how productive you are and what you learn. You could take a few Classes and still learn necessary fundamental skills. On the other hand, someone could have many hours and just sleep in Class the entire time and not learn. As long as you're learning, hours signify nothing more than numbers/statistics.

I'm sure that paper was scrutinized because it is correct. It's all a business and you have to basically do what they want in order to get the degree even if the cost is a graduate coming out in over $100k debt and paying it off for next 30+ years.

Exactly my point. I wouldn't mind it if it would benefit me but I see no benefits coming from French Literature and I have thoroughly thought about it to see if I can come up with just one and I stayed blank.
