Post: Cannabis in gel/oil form can actually be used as a cure for cancer.

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Earlier today I had a very interesting discussion about cannabis (marijuana). When heated and turned into an oil cannabis can be used as a cure for cancer. Basically cancerous cells have receptors on them that react with the THC in marijuana. When this happens the cancerous cells are killed. The benefit to this is that healthy cells do not produce these same receptors, so the oil does not have any effect on healthy cells.

Chemotherapy is something that targets any rapidly dividing cell in the body (such as hair, which is why chemo causes hair loss). This is the advantage that using cannabis can have over chemo or other forms anti-cancer drugs.

The conversation then went on about legalization of marijuana (for both medical purposes and recreational purposes). An interesting point was made which was based mostly on speculation but certainly not baseless speculation that medical companies use their influence in the government to block the legalization of marijuana. This is because if the drug is legalized for medicinal uses one cannot patent a plant. This is something that is regularly talked where it sometimes seems that a company will not release something to ensure that the Business of Medicine continues (keeping the sick, sick). That is a very negative outlook on how medicine works but some certainly do find it valid.

For those who'd like to read more about how cannabis can cure cancer you can see this site: You must login or register to view this content.

The site does a very good job at explaining it for those who have no background in medicine.

What do you guys think about this?

Spain did cannabis oil trials last year and confirmed cannabis oil cures cancer. And even at the very least that it doesn't, it helps you deal with the chemotherapy so well, you won't feel as sick and you'll have your appetite back. Look this all being said, with all the probable medicinal properties of cannabis; from treating glaucoma and epilepsy, to treating cancer and AIDS, among a plethora of others I don't have the time to list, if you really want Google Granny's List on Grasscity. For goodness sake, the least we could do with all these cases is to at least put marijuana as a Schedule II drug meaning we can get our universities to properly study the helpful and harmful effects of marijauna. That way we can shut up once an for all one side of the marijauana argument. Ultimately, I feel as an American, regardless of the positive and negative affects, I believe that we should be able to choose for ourselves. I mean for goodness sake, we can choose to consume alcohol and tobacco and eat ourselves to obesity then death, but I can't get my high on...

So most of you would agree that pharmaceutical companies do block drugs from being put out on the market if they could help the population on a large scale?

So it doesn't cure cancer? Only makes you feel better?

Yes cannabis has been used to reduce nausea and vomiting in chemotherapy, but that is as far as it will help.

Cancer is a broad group of diseases involving unregulated cell growth, which means cancer isn't just one disease it's a collection of disease with common features, and that is why it is hard to find a cure. Cancer attacks at the cellular level.

Unless someone can create a variety of cannabis for each of the cancer diseases it will never work, it may make you feel better in the short term but it will never cure cancer only help with the symptoms. A bit like the common cold, there are no cures only remedies to reduce the symptoms as the cold is so varied.

You would also need a delivery system for the cancer to hit the diseased cells, which could be anywhere in the body from head to toe.

Also another point to add is that cancer can grow, so unless they can up the dose every time, which would eventually kill the patient either by cancer or drug overdose.

Some people think antibiotics cures colds, it may make you feel better but it will do you more harm than good.

If they did have a cure for the terminal diseases, in this day and age where people can't keep secrets for long, sooner or later they will be leaked, the only way they could keep it secret is by the threat of any leaks punishable by death, so no I don't believe these medical companies hide cures just so they can sell short term medicines. Speculation like this is more science fiction than science fact.

Personally I think it's just a bunch of addicts wishful thinking to try and find a way in their high to justify legalising cannabis. No Winky Winky

Cannabis in the oil form doesn't get you high and you can't overdose on it. So its completely harmless. Also if the cannabis oil does eradicate all of the cancerous cells then its a pretty complete treatment and chances are the cancer won't come back.

And one basic use for the oil is a topical gel for skin cancer for example.

Also less science fiction. Instead I'd call it more conspiracy theories :p.

Then it's only for skin cancer? I can't see an oil reaching the more deep internal cancers. And if that was the case that the oil can cure cancer it's not a secret and cannabis oil is available everywhere and everyone would be using it to cure cancer.

Only stated that for the people who would state that one case study doesn't fully support a hypothesis, which I would agree with said assessment. We need more scientific studies, which we can't get in the US because of Marijuana's Schedule II classification (and to be perfectly honest, I rather the scientific studies be from the US, Canada, England, etc, not really Spain to be perfectly honest, for academic reasons I rather not discuss.) You wouldn't need to create specific strains because we already have strains incredibly high in CDBs, which is the supposed chemical compounds which have medicinal effects (which target our Cannabinoid receptors in our brain and through our whole body, we have A LOT of them.)
Also I should add, onto the oil, I don't think you understand how the body transports chemical compounds through the body or even how modern medicine works at all. You design a transportation mechanism to target key areas, hence why we have shots, pills, suppositories, sprays, etc, etc. Of course rubbing oil on your skin to treat liver cancer would be foolish. A solution for that would be a drink (like the alcoholic Green Dragon) to bring said cannabis to your liver. It really isn't hard to design a transportation mechanism for cannabis to target key areas.
