I personally think that it works well, but other punishments such as grounding the kid for a week would be even better. Let me know what you guys think.

My ass was spanked quite often when I was a child, and I thank my parents for that. I was never grounded at all though and think I turned out okay. I think both are effective disciplinary actions.
