You will not notice the speed different with the i7, thats 230$ more than you have to spend, spend that money on another hard drive or another GPU those are things that are always useful.

He could probably get the i7 and sell his i5 and the money he gets from the i5 should be almost enough to pay for the i7 so why not upgrade?

It is a bargain because I was going to buy it regardless (I need hyperthreading for example) so the fact that I'm saving $100, can sell my 3570k, and my old MSI Radeon HD 7850, I'm pretty going even. And I will be getting another 7950 because I plan on getting 3 1440p monitors in eyefinity.

Not so much if you get a Korean 1440p IPS monitor. They can be anywhere from $300 to $600 depending on specs and whether or not you want a pixel perfect version.

All the ones on newegg are like $800 or more. Why not just get 3 good 1080p monitors?

Clearly someone hasn't used a resolution higher than 1080p because if you did, you wouldn't be asking that question. 1440p and to a different extent 1600p, is the bee's knees. The price is $800, because you're buying from the likes of Samsung, Asus, and Dell who charge that much because they are name brands and they use A+ panels whereas the Korean model like the Catleap, Crossover, Overlord, Auria, etc use the leftovers like A and A- panels. The end result can be dead, stuck, or bright pixels with light bleed. But if you use Ebay you can buy these panels where they don't have these problems. And like I said about the 3770k at Microcenter, Microcenter sells the 1440p Auria monitor for $399, where you can get a warranty, so the problems with oversea shipping and no warranties are a thing of the past.

Your right, I've never used a monitor above 1080p but I don't think the difference would be worth it but if you have money to blow go ahead. I'm happy with my 3 20" 1680x1050 monitors. Maybe you're just a videophile lol

There's 1.777 times the pixels of 1080p, it's absolutely amazing! But I wouldn't necessarily call myself a videophile though. But if you could try it out at a store or something, you'd love it too and you'd NEVER want to go below it ever again.
