Sonia Alfano's father was murdered by the Mafia in 1993 when she was at University, and has since campaigned on behalf of the relatives of those who've suffered at the hands of Italian organised crime.

Alfano, president of the Italian association for the families of Mafia victims - Familiari Vittime di Mafia, said yesterday:

It really, really hurts, we can't allow this to happen, the wounds are still too fresh.

Alfano appealed last week to the European Commission, calling for the game to be banned, which has a rank-up system within a mob in 'Empire Bay', a fictional New York.

Alan Lewis of Take-Two, defended the game:

Mafia II tells a compelling story about organised crime in America - a subject that for decades has been featured in award-winning movies, television shows and novels such as The Godfather and The Sopranos. We fully and completely stand behind our creative teams and products, including Mafia II.

Every time I hear a story about a video game in Europe its always about trying to ban it because the their killing in these games are always about them, c'mon stop it, its a VIDEO GAME doesn't mean anything so don't let your government get all worried about it.

Video Games were made to be played, so the users could have fun, and enjoy the story line of a MADE UP STORY, FOR ENTERTAINMENT. If your family members got killed by the mafia, maybe don't buy it? Europe has no right to ban it for the ENTIRE continent (well they do have the right, butYou must login or register to view this content., GAMERS will be furious with parliament). Hopefully they figure something out that both makes the Gamers, and the person who's family died from mafia BOTH happy.
