Activision CEO Sees Call of Duty as a Form of Social Media

Earlier this week Activision CEO, Bobby Kotick had an interview with CNN where he noted that "more people play Black Ops, daily, than watch the late night hosts Leno, Letterman and Fallon, combined".

That doesn't seem like much of an accomplishment though, seeing how big a phenomenon the Call of Duty franchise is. But that wasn't the only thing he compared the COD to. He then went on to compare the shooter to Facebook and text messaging, in terms of cultural relevance.

"The audience of 'Call of Duty' is probably greater in terms of size than in any other interactive form of entertainment," Kotick told CNN. "If you look at the 500 million people who are on Facebook and the way that people text each other and instant message and use video chat, there is now an evolution of media. Those are the characteristics and attributes that a generation and audiences feel are very important to their media and entertainment experiences."

CNN said Kotick believes the Call of Duty franchise delivers on that trend through its online multiplayer.

Towards the end of the interview Kotick couldn't resist taking a shot at Infinity Ward even though the founders were fired and they're facing a hefty lawsuit the studio still belongs to Activision.

"Multiplayer has been largely developed by Treyarch," Kotick asserted. "I don't think Treyarch got their due for how much they contributed in the production and polish to the multiplayer."

It was good, really good, probably the best but not the most balanced.
Juggernaut and Stopping power, as well as the usual guns.

Black Ops is the most balanced COD. Even a Infinity Ward fanboy has to admit that.

Maybe, I agree that they're close, but you have to remember that someone with JUGG didn't have stopping power, and they aren't that OP. They are both in the same perk 2. So you'd have to use one or another, and if you didn't use stopping power you'd probably use JUGG. Without stopping power, and you using jugg, you wouldn't be able to kill people as easily and someone with stopping power could even itself out. A jugg v someone with stopping power was equal. I agree they could of made them both less powerful but it didn't impact the game so much that I'd consider it OP.

Black ops is maybe the most balanced cod, but it isn't the most fun. They, in particular to me, ruined it because of the short med - close range maps. Hopefully a map pack with 5+ maps of long range will fix it.
