We've all been blown away by the price tag attached to the Thrustmaster wheel for Gran Turismo 5. A month before its official launch, we now have more specific details about the features in it.

One of the things that you should be looking forward to would be the 1080° rotation capabilities of the wheel. The gearshift levers, the wheel's central spokes section (30cm in diameter) and the pedal set are all metal, with the wheel itself weighing in at 4.6kg, while the pedal set is at 7.3kg. Darned right it's gonna be heavy.

As for the rest of the features:

  • Magnetic sensor-based H.E.A.R.T. (HallEffect AccuRate Technology) incorporated in the wheel's steering mechanicism.
  • 16-bit resolution and 65536 values on steering axis
  • fully-adjustable space and height pedal, capable of two mounting positions: floor-mounted F1 style or suspended GT style
  • Textured, metal foot rest
  • "Vigorous, fast-acting and extremely responsive" Force Feedback mechanism
  • Independent Gear stick to be available in the coming months

Said Yamauchi, "The goal that I set for the Thrustmaster team was to design for me the most precise wheel ever developed, without any latency – to accurately reproduce the sensations of GT5, and let users truly feel the emotions experienced by drivers on real racing circuits."

The Thrustmaster comes out on January 5th for both Europe and North America, while Japan will get it on January 25th.

Fanatec wheels with ClubSpot pedals have load cell brakes. This means that braking is measured by how hard you press on the brake, as opposed to how far.

It makes the brakes much more controllable and realistic. Logitech has nothing in the same class as these pedals. By all accounts the pedals alone, which cost ~$200, make all the difference in the world.

Not that it matters because if the prices are right that costs roughly the same as my first car..

Yes, they do work in the game. In GT5, you just press triangle when the race says START to activate clutch, same as in Prologue.
