Ever since the Xbox 360 introduced cross-game chat to its Xbox Live users, enabling them to party up with and chat with players in other games, PlayStation 3 fans have wondered when Sony would implement such a feature on the PSN. As it turns out, the reason we've been waiting so long for this feature, is because the PS3 simply cannot do it. There are memory restrictions in place that would make it impossible Shuhei Yoshida said.

A RAM usage feature of the console prevents a cross-game chat feature, Yoshida You must login or register to view this content..

Quote: "Once a game gets RAM we never give it back," he said. "It's not possible to retrofit something like that after the fact...The game has to use its own memory to do in-game voice chat. There's always voice chat in the game. But it's part of a game feature. It's not part of an OS feature. That's the reason in terms of the ability to have voice chat across different games."

So what do you have to say about this? Leave some feedback and your opinion's in a post below! Hopefully they will bring this feature into the Ps4 though.

Really wish they have said this earlier instead of teasing us. Oh well...Not gonna act like this isn't a bummer, though.

Greatness
I think this is because online gaming wasnt to big before the 360 and ps3, there was no real demand for the cross game chat when it was launched so sony did not think it was needed. Now they do see people want this feature it may be included in the ps4.

Also why cant they just use virtual memory? Its not like everyone has used all of the memory on the ps3 hard drive, they would only need about 512 mb at MOST, and they could do it by having a software update.

Sony is just to lazy to give the customers something they actually want!

PS3 256MB RAM
Xbox 360 2GB RAM
Do the math..

The news that I will never ever have cross game chat on my PS3 is a damn shame, isn't it time sony started doing some homework about how this online feature is needed.
People who say they only ever need to chat when they're in a game with someone doesnt understand the benefits of being able to contact your friends to find out why you can't join their game, if the lobby is full for example, without them having to quit or write messages back and forth. Why cant they add more RAM? They beef up the hdd from 40 to 320 why not beef up the ram?

Hurah!
ok i understand this kind of but, surely the voice chat system we already have could be less of a foreground application and more of a background one and then we can chat across games using that, or would this have to be implemented into every game, i dont see why it should it could just run in the background and block out chat from games. makes more sense dont it?

The PS3 has been out for years, it was never going to happen.
