Jobs handed his resignation letter today, with a recommendation that Cook be promoted from Acting CEO to CEO immediately.

I have always said if there ever came a day when I could no longer meet my duties and expectations as Apple’s CEO, I would be the first to let you know. Unfortunately, that day has come.

I hereby resign as CEO of Apple. I would like to serve, if the Board sees fit, as Chairman of the Board, director and Apple employee.

As far as my successor goes, I strongly recommend that we execute our succession plan and name Tim Cook as CEO of Apple.

I believe Apple’s brightest and most innovative days are ahead of it. And I look forward to watching and contributing to its success in a new role.

I have made some of the best friends of my life at Apple, and I thank you all for the many years of being able to work alongside you.

A mac is in no way more limited than a pc. For starters you can run pc on mac, you cannot run mac on pc without an emulator. I currently run windows side by side with my mac, and as such have both computers at my fingertips.

People who say 'we cant get viruses' are ignorant, and you stereotype by using the term we, as though mac users are some sort of group that stick together. However macs are far far far less likely to get a virus than windows because there are less out there and mac is harder to target, therefore regardless of whether its 'virusproof' or not, it is still better than windows.

You dont adore apples and macs because from what you've said you've clearly not owned one (certainly not a modern one) and if you have then you must be illiterate with computers because macs far outshine pc's in looks, virusprotection and practicality. macs are for the sophisticated members of society.

People with any sense of logic and reason do. If you want to blindly spend money on things that don't even add-up performance-wise, be my guest. But it doesn't mean your computer is any better. Anyone, except Mac-users, know that.

It needs an emulator, but the fact is it can still do it. And you probably use Mac OSX more for simplicity reasons, so yeah.

Stereotypes exist for a reason, and in every argument I've ever seen on the Internet about Macs and PCs, someone has brought that up. And Mac users do stick together, stop denying it. Otherwise Apple would be gone.

And it isn't better than Windows if you know how to avoid a virus, and that's not a very difficult concept to grasp at all. I could tell my 7 year old cousin how not to get a virus, and he'd understand, but almost every Mac user says that that was a deciding factor in their decision, and honestly it doesn't help your "sophistication" argument.

You don't have to own something to know about it, kiddo. That's a very common misconception among Mac users. I don't have an Xbox, but I'm familiar enough with its functionality. Why? Because I've used one quite a few times, just like a Mac.

then you must be illiterate with computers because macs far outshine pc's in looks, virusprotection and practicality.

You've basically just obliterated your whole argument.

Looks are all up to opinion, and functionality is better than "pretty colors".

I don't even HAVE virus protection on my PC, and I haven't gotten a single virus on it. Why? Because it's the easiest thing to avoid. Only Mac users and older/younger people who don't understand the basics of using a computer do, apparently. And not many older/younger people around here don't understand the basics, so Macintosh fanatics are obviously the majority.

And as for practicality, simplicity limits things. Mac is a simple OS, that is its selling point, and that's why Mac users use Macs. It takes a 5 year old to function.

Look at me defending only Windows, when Linux is obviously another suitable OS in this argument.

EDIT: You should watch "Welcome to Macintosh". It's a wonderful documentary, and I learned a lot from it. Specifically about the Mac community.

Second edit: Before we go on with this, I should probably stop this right here. For simplicity's sake (a Mactard's favorite thing :p), I'm just going to say Macs are better, even though I haven't seen a reply from you. I don't feel like arguing about this, now. If I want to, I'll take it to the Mac section, but there's no point in doing it here and flooding this thread.

I decided not to quote, as you have a lot to say.

Frankly im not going to argue over my choice to buy a mac, i have an excess of money and if i choose to spend that money in a way that seems 'blind' to you then fine, but at the end of the day i have the money and i can afford things and have plenty left over, so why wouldnt i?

A lot of your arguments revolve around pc 'still being able to do something' but thats not good enough for me to be honest, i want something that is easier. Not because i cant do the harder way or am in any way inferior or less intelligent to a pc user but because my common sense tells me that the better option is always going to be the more simple one, especially on the topics we discussed. This goes for the virus protection aswell. Yes ok you can avoid getting viruses by being careful, but i dont want to be isolated to a few sites and be careful with what i download, why should i have to be? it is ridiculous to suggest that it is better in anyway to 'just be careful' when you dont have to be. However by me saying this dont assume (as i know you will) that having virus protection and a mac leads to complacency because i assure you.. it doesnt.

Frankly you cannot in any way determine whether a mac is good or not by 'using it quite a few times', computers last for years, you cannot simple try it once or twice and make a decision upon that. I think that the fact i have owned and used multiple high end pcs for nearly 10 years of my life and then switched to a mac and have stayed on my mac for almost 2 years says a lot.

I am not a mac 'fanboy' as you clearly seem to think nor am i some sort of trend following ape with little intelligence. But unlike you i have experience living long term whilst using both, for pretty much the same functions, and not only do i prefer the mac, its made my life easier and more enjoyable. And anyone who believes a pc is more attractive than a mac is clearly unwell in some way, especially a pc that is at the same level of performance as a mac, as to have this performance most pc's would require a tower, which are the most hideous creations in computing history, even the alienware ones have a lot to be desired aesthetically.

I think the issue here is that you clearly have a very warped view of what mac users are like and have been highly influenced by what media has told you, which frankly says a lot. Im a free thinker, and while i will listen to valid and sound advice and information, i rarely trust what is said on tv because 99% of the time there is bias involved. As was clearly the case in this documentary. Also, stop generalising the 'mac community' because believe it or not, not EVERYONE who owns a mac is like what you described, again your warped view appears to be affecting you judgement and logic, as clearly not everyone who owns a mac would act the same.

I've already said I wasn't going to argue. :y: It's not worth it.

This guy's pretentious, but he's not a fanboy. And that's not as fun.
