Did you tick the favourite rivals option that's within the secret menu? The only time it's reverted to one make races is when I entered as the Ferrari F1, other than that it's always worked for me. Karts and cars racing together can create some stunning and extremely fun races.
It's under the first sub-menu, called Special Settings. Took a picture to show you, make sure that's on.

yeah i figured it out, i added a group of cars but it would only put in 15 of the car with the most PP because i left the PP range at 1, so i moved it to 500 and now the entire field is different.
ps. can you limit the number of opponents in arcade mode or is it always 16 cars?

Anyone know how to Disable the Secret menu, once you have it.
I tried setting the Hex bit back, but that doesn't work..
Once it's active, it must make Extra changes to the Save.
I could restore a save that doesn't have it active yet, but I didn't want to loose all the cars I added since.
If it can't be done, then I'll just revert to an earlier game save.

Ahh, My Bad with the hex editing....
I was making both the 01 before and After to 00,
only the 01 before needs to be changed to 00, leave the 01 after it..
