The Toyota FT-1 Vision Gran Turismo

Car Info
Following the excitement of the FT-1 release in the Gran Turismo 6 game, the CALTY design team from Toyota’s North American Design branch has taken their dream one step further in creating the ultimate racecar, the FT-1 Vision Gran Turismo.

The designers’ original intention in designing the FT-1 was to unabashedly appeal to the die hard car enthusiasts. In the same way, the FT-1 Vision Gran Turismo is designed for die-hard Gran Turismo fans. The designers focused on keeping the FT-1 Vision Gran Turismo authentic for the virtual racetracks of the game, to maximize their driving pleasure.

Because the bones and architecture of the FT-1 already lend itself to cooling and down force through “function-sculpting,” the vision version just needed to be enhanced as a pure racing car. The designers closely studied racetracks and racecars, and applied their research into the styling. A deep sense of rawness is evident in the FT-1 Vision Gran Turismo, due to its purely function-driven design aesthetics. The fenders and tires are wider for extreme grip on the track. The enlarged air intakes provide increased cooling, and a larger rear wing and additional front canards have been added for even more down force. The rear diffuser has been enlarged with multiple vertical fins, and is moved further back for cleaner airflow.

The FT-1 Vision Gran Turismo looks and feels the way it performs, so the driver can speed through the racetracks with the same sensation and thrill of real racing.

My Interpretation
When Toyota Green light the VGT Project to the design team I think they decided to use it as an extension of the FT-1 Project. I believe they did this because they are very excited about the FT-1 design and are making every attempt to sell it up the food chain. I believe there is official announcement that The FT-1 sinsce its release in GT6 has been given the green light as the next Toyota Supra, lets see if thats realized. The FT-1 VGT Takes the Future Toyota 1 Design to pure race car level. I believe The design team trying to highlight the Jpn GT Racing potential of the platform.

Technology
Airflow Management is what the designer talk about when explaining the shape of the car while trying to stay true to the character of the Supra. The Vision Gran Turismo expanding upon this into Racing Spec and with open doors to future tech and the high possibility KERS & ERS will be spreading out across the racing variations, a KERS System has been added to the drivetrain. Recovering energy and providing ans automatic power boost, the KERS System also has a driver controlled additional boost applied with the Nitro Button. The FT-1 VGT has no MGU-H on Turbos so its is strictly a KERS System, not a full ERS System. The FT-1 VGT Does have KERS Overboost.

Sound
The Car has a great sound to it, mean and Race Car note, turn it up and put your foot down its a great sound.

Car Info
Vision Gran Turismo is a revolutionary project established for car enthusiasts all over the world. The car provided by Subaru for this dream project where the world's car manufacturers and brands develop concept cars in the game world, is an ultimate sportscar carrying Subaru's concept car motto "VIZIV"; Vision for Innovation. The car is called the "SUBARU VIZIV GT Vision Gran Turismo".

Inheriting the design language of Subaru's "SUBARU VIZIV 2 Concept" revealed at the March 2014 Geneva show, the Subaru design team have added dynamic and solid shapes to the model. Its shoulder line extends from the front hexagonal grill all the way to the rear. Its tough looking body seems as though it was carved from hard, solid metal. And with blister fenders extending its shape three dimensionally outward, it visually expresses Subaru's pursuit of a safe and enjoyable driving experience. Its large diffuser, the roof integrated rear spoiler, and its shooting brake silhouette which accounts for aerodynamic performance, will surely stand out among others in the game.

Thorough weight reduction was a focus in the design of the body structure, and carbon materials have been utilized everywhere. As a result, the vehicle weight was held down to 1,380 kg despite being equipped with heavy batteries and motors. Propelling the lightweight body is Subaru's legendary 2 liter horizontally opposed engine that has been fully tuned with years of motorsports experience. The direct injection turbocharged engine that has been powered up with revised restrictor diameters is combined with one high power motor in the front and two in the rear, which achieves a total system power output of 591 HP and 800 Nm (593 ft-lb) of maximum torque. By independently controlling each of the motor outputs, turning ability while cornering is drastically improved, while the torque vectoring lamps built into the fenders visualize its movement. Thus as with any other Subaru, the car is made controllable for anyone driving the car, regardless of its extremely high performance levels.

Experience the "SUBARU VIZIV GT Vision Gran Turismo", a car that delivers Subaru's ideals of confidence and driving pleasure through an unprecedented aggressive design and extreme levels of performance.

My Interpretation
Subaru says its using the Subaru Concept Motto ViSiV Vision of Innovation. Its clear there are some cues brought over from the Subaru ViSiV Concept crossover.. Much of it is Also brand identification the 2 have taken a few core lines and gone in very different directions. Despite all that what I see when I look at the ViSiV VGT is a 2 door front engine 2.0L Boxer 4 Turbo AWD Wagon/Hatchish WRX. Yeah many may disagree but this just kooks like a WRX ViSi VGT to me.

I like the look, I like the Subaru Brand Styling direction, the drivetrain has me on the fence. The drivetrain does take a little bit of the WRX fun out of it as there is next to no rear bias, the back end gets most power from the electric motor and uses an open diff with torque vectoring instead of an LSD. Im on the fence because I like rear biased cars and sliding WRS's sideways hard, but there is not so much WRX Slide in the ViSiV VGT the crazy torque vectoring getting in the way putting power down exactly where it needs to be to grip and sling shot the ViSiV VGT in the direction the driver wants this thing runs on land based Fly By Wire where the drivers inputs are looked at by the computer and the computer does whatever it takes with all the systems to make it so, and it is so.

Just when you need it hit the Nitro button and the KERS motor adds additional hp to give you that passing edge or that extra juice to get in before the guy net to you fighting to dive into your spot.

It is interesting to note unlike other Hybrid Systems that are dependent on battery charge, the ViSiV is not. The hybrid system is directly feed by the combustion engine & so even when the battery is depleted the electric motors are still being supplied power by the engine as a generator.

Technology
KERS Kinetic Energy Recovery, Using 3 Electric Motors, 1 in the front on the trans-axle and 2 in the rear. KERS Auto Boost & Driver Controlled Additional Boost. Front & Rear Torque Vectoring using a Front LSD & Open Rear differential using the Torque Vectoring and electric motors in place of an LSD. Visual Torque Vectoring Lights Activity Indicators. High Downforce Design without limits. Ground Effects Diffuser, Wing & front lip

Now that the Infinity VGT has been released its time to compare it to the Nissan 2020 VisionGT. Before the car was released we had all seen the leaked photo and teaser shots and while many thought there was not much resemblance between the Nissan & Infinity. I disagree and believe the Infinity is based on the Nissan. Looking at the car it in my eyes clearly proves to be true. The Infinity Clearly based on the Nissan using the 2020 VGT as its platform base.

Some might point at some stark differences in styling, this is true, they are styled very different and from the base chassis they go in 2 very different directions. I believe when Nissan put out the word to Infinity to build a VGT on the 2020 VGT platform they gave Infinity some restrictions to keep it infinity and separation from the Nissan Star Attraction, and keep with Infinity tradition.

I believe Nissan said No VR38DETT, it has to be Naturally Aspired, it has to be styled much different using Infinity fluid design, & it has to be Rear Wheel Drive.

Looking from the front one could say the Windshield line is so different that it couldn't be the Same Chassis

You must login or register to view this content.

This is actually an illusion using cleaver design. The Infinity has flying buttresses and this makes the cab further back, but uses the same core. It can be seen looking from behind when you can see the line from the buttresses.

You must login or register to view this content.

AS we can see now they line up and the illusion is exposed.

Looking from the side we see there is a Main line on the Nissan the goes from the hood along to the side and cuts sharp to the top of the rear fender. The Infinity has the same line although once it gets to the door instead of staying on sharp to the top of the rear fender it swings back and goes over the truck to meet up with the line from the other side. The Nissan also shares the same curve as the body line curves before the rear spoiler.

Now when Infinity had to make power but could not go to boost they IMO opted for displacement and grabbed the The VH45DE a 4.5 liter V8 and KERS system to it that has automatic boost and Driver controlled additional boost with the Nitro Button just like the Nissan 2020 but without the MGU-H Turbos.

To accommodate the bigger engine the engine bay had to be enlarged, so the front end is a bit larger.

You must login or register to view this content.

Infinity also went with the GTR split transaxle transmission and makes use of the 2020 KERS motor on the trans-axle.

The Styling of the 2 cars is quite different, but the 2 sharing the same base platform is clear to me. It shows the ingenuity of the Infinity design team to take the base platform and make something Infinity exciting with it without feeling like its just a Nissan is different cloths.

Infiniti is a premium brand that entered the market in 1989. Known for its category defining designs like the original INFINITI G sedan, G Coupe and FX, cars that then and today as INFINITI Q50, Q60 and QX70 embody uncompromised integration of performance engineering and design. Beyond these iconic products is our commitment to the highest expression of engineering excellence, Formula 1!

The INFINITI CONCEPT Vision Gran Turismo is a project that started as an ambitious global competition to “design a pure INFINITI GT car”, and the winning design was born from the inspiration of INFINITI Design Beijing. Part beautiful and part beast, its shape is powerful, sensual, and ambitious; a mix of track machine and the dream of our Chinese designer to create a seductive racing language for INFINITI.

Part artistry and part science, the process of developing the design of INFINITI CONCEPT Vision Gran Turismo started with hand sketching refined in the digital world, refined again by hand sculpting then returned to digital for final refinement. One designer shared that his vision and inspiration was to capture the rise of the young generation, the romantic and sensational Asian creativity, which established itself by constantly breaking new ground. This desire to break new ground includes the dream to take this GT to a real race one day.

Needless to say, this project went beyond a mere study of styling and involved thorough examination of aerodynamic and engine performance. The front mid-ship / trans-axle powertrain is a combination of 4.5L V8 N/A engine and 1 motor. In a low-speed area, the motor delivers overwhelming torque to the ferocious beast, and in a high-speed area, the V8 N/A engine delivers immense power with sensual exhaust note as though its top speed is unlimited. The trans-axle layout brings the finely distributed 45:55 front/rear mass balance that fills users with the joy of driving by actively drifting the rear. Young engineers with great driving skills made many laps of virtual tests to refine the dynamic characteristics. As for aerodynamics, the under-floor airflow control, front and back diffusers, and uniquely-shaped rear spoiler enable this car to demonstrate high performance without compromising the impact of the body design.

With this concept study we look forward to countless virtual pilots breaking record after record at every track around the world.

The Chevrolet Chaparral 2X Vision Gran Turismo

Performance Specs
Mid Engine Laser Propulsion System
4 Wheel Steering & Thrust Vectoring
Dynamic Downforce Flaps

793pp
905hp @ 9100ppm
450kg 50/50

Car Info
Conceived as a “Garage 56” Le Mans Experimental Prototype, the Chevrolet Chaparral 2X Vision Gran Turismo is a look into the future of motorsports and inspired by the combined sensations of flying in a wing suit and a Moto GP race bike... an experience where the 2X pilot flies around the circuit, headlong, just inches from the race surface. The 2X’s Chevrolet power unit is unlike anything seen on the track before... it literally thrusts itself down the track with laser pulse shock waves generated by an advanced propulsion system from Chevrolet.

The driving position creates one of the most immersive and exciting experiences ever imagined in four wheel motorsports. The vehicle architecture and design take its shape as a result of the “forward flight” driving position, one where the pilot becomes at one with the structure of the car. Once on board, with the canopy retracted to the closed position, the 2X forms a totally unique envelope around the pilot’s outstretched body. Hand and foot controls operate independently and involve all of the frictionless, magnetic bearing wheels. Vehicle acceleration, deceleration and direction is controlled by the movement & physical inputs of the 2X pilot, a true application of four points of control. Braking is handled by a combination of Brembo magnetic re-gen callipers and deployable AeroBrake panels in the 2X bodywork.

The integral BodyFrame is created using a unique “layup schedule” which allows the entire structure to act in unison with the 2X suspension. The main body also incorporates the super-ridged propulsion structure which ensures absolute accuracy of the thrust parabola to the laser pulse cone. The variable positioning of the thrust cone vanes serve to create propulsion and downforce by the simultaneous use of this multi-vane adjustability and a lower Thrust Vectoring panel. The combination of these two technologies allows the Chaparral 2X pilot to fine tune downforce to the exact spot on a given circuit, actually “pressing” the tire’s contact patch onto the track surface and enhancing mechanical grip where needed most.

The Chevrolet Chaparral 2X Vision Gran Turismo. The spirit of Jim Hall’s amazing legacy of motorsport innovation embodied in a bold statement. One which will revolutionize the future of Le Mans Experimental prototypes. Like nothing you’ve ever seen or heard before.

My Interpretation
Chevrolet pairing back up with Chaparral to create a modern vision of future possibilities. A pairing that in the roots of racing in the 60's pushed the use of future ideas on the track. It just doesn't get better than that for a gear head like me, oh but it does. The vision is a prone position 4 wheel steering vehicle that almost flies above the track as much as it drives propelled by the futuristic laser technology applied on a land vehicle. Wow, just wow. Rocket and Jet cars have been done, this is the new 2k age not the 1950's & 60's. Lasers was the only untapped propulsion system to strap on a race car, and they did it. Sure its all theoretical, but its actually all theoretically possible.

I see Dare Devils like the crazy Rollerman rolling down the Swiss Alps on his custom prone roller suit and the vision of a winged flight suit flying around the track and I get excited.

Sure there are a million reasons not to realize the 2X or if all the theoretical technology would work so well together if all theoretically available at a production level, but there is a real good reason to try when this machine leaves the pits.

Magnetic Brakes make sure the thrust can be contained without a catastrophic failure due to the brakes fighting ghe thrust on top of trying to slow he vehicle.

Technology
Prone Position, 4 wheel steering, active downforce flaps, and a fricken Laser. the Laser Propulsion system providing thrust & an active thrust vectoring flap to use the thrust as downforce to aid braking & fighting the thrust to stop the car are Brembo Magnetic Caliper Brakes. As far as concepts and visions of the future go this is the craziest thing Ive ever seen.

Sound
With only videos of the Laser technology in development the sound is as if they took the sound clip directly from them, its probably the most authentic sounding car lol and the simplest sound clip. Its pretty much what I expected it to sound like, any different and it would of sounded wrong lol. Its not a great sound like the ViSiV but it is a Laser lol

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't online have A-Spec type events? The Seasonal are more or less an online expansion of A-Spec with continuously changing events that use a wide variety of cars and locations? Are there Races or just Time Trial or as I would assume both. So as long as a user has online access, the Single Player aspect is quite large and always has more new events to come as New Seasonals. Or am I missing some reason that's all not important.

With the adition of KERS into F1 the systems have began to evolve and one of the evolutions is the OverBoost button. In 2013 F1 drivers had a button to allow them to pull aditional power from the KERS system to increase hp for a limited duration per lap. In 2014 the KERS Systems evolved even more and the adition of MGU-H Turbos were developped using the MGU-H in place of the traditional waste gate and aditionally can aid spooling up the turbo to eliminate turbo lap on top of recycling more energy into the recovery system to then use as power going around the track.

After some testing Ive found that a few of the VisionGT cars have Overboost from the electric motors. I call using the Nitro button to add additional hp "OverBoost" it last only as log as there is a charge in the battery and is additional power on top of power already coming from the electric motors. Whatever you have your Nitro Button mapped to when driving these cars it becomes your electric motor "OverBoost" button.

The Overboost Button is straight out of 2013 F1 Technology

So Far the Nissan 2020 VGT was the first to use OverBoost & the system found on the Nissan is more advanced OverBoost than the other VGT's that have it. The Nissan we can confirm has (and is the only car in GT6) MGU-H Turbos and the Overboost button will also spool up the turbos on top of providing additional hp from the electric motors. No other VGT with Overboost to date has MGU-H Turbos the rest use basically 2013 F1 style systems while the Nissan uses the 2014 F1 technology combined with 2013 F1 technology OverBoost.

The List of cars that use OverBoost are:

Nissan 2020 Concept VisionGT
Toyota FT-1 VisionGT
Subaru ViSiV GT VisionGT
Infinity Concept VisionGT

Part of the Vision is that these aspects of Hybrid Technology will tricle into production vehicles. If we look at cars like the 918 Spider and P1 its clear its begun and the results are spectacular. Imagine what cars at the obtainable level will start to look like when these systems find themselvs in cars you and I are purchasing and used to the max in cars like the Nismo GT-R. Why imagine, jump in the Nissan 2020 VGT and check out the vision of the future.

These 4 cars will put down much faster laps if you take advantage of the OverBoost, if you didn't use it yet on them, enjoy chopping down every lap time you've set with these cars, but use it wisely, on some of them it pulls a lot of juice. If it runs out you wont get any of the power increase thats presant with a charge on the battery.
