I want to Jailbreak my PS3 and I would like to know the required parts (Hardware, software etc.) that I will need. ( I would like to downgrade and load custom patches and stuff like that )

I have a CECH - 2001B PS3 "Slim"

I've heard of the e3 flasher and heard that is required.

Please reply with required info and other fun/cool ideas that you guys use

CHAPTER 2

Part 1 Downgrade

You only need to follow one METHOD.
Choose one:

NEW METHOD - No FSM dongle needed, and will not format your HDD

Spoiler:
After making your backups continue here and leave your PS3 on. There is no need to reboot.
Download PS3 NOR and Nand Patcher v0.04
Extract to Desktop or where ever you like.
Put your bkpps3.bin in the PS3 NOR and Nand Patcher v0.04 folder.
Drag and drop the bkpps3.bin onto PS3_Nor_and_Nand_Auto_Patcher_v0.04.exe
The program will open and wait for it to apply the patches.
Now there will be a new file named bkpps3_NOR_patched.bin.
Delete all files from your sd card and put the bkpps3_NOR_patched.bin on it, renamed to bkpps3.bin
Put the sd card in the flasher.
Put all switches down on flasher. And press the red reset button under the esata plug on the faceplate.
Press start on flasher, and wait for blue leds to light up 1 by 1. When done lights will alternate flash.
[You will need the blu ray drive and the HDD, attached for the next steps. So if you are going to remove the flasher, now would be the time to do so. Rebuild and change the thermal compound, with Artic Silver 5.]
Reboot PS3 from XMB.
On boot you should see "please connect controller screen" (If your PS3 is on OFW 4.40 you will boot to the XMB. You can Install Rogero CFW4.40 v1.02 from XMB -> Settings -> System Update)
CONNECT THE CONTROLLER!
Put Rogero_4.40_v1.02_PS3UPDAT.PUP
on your flash drive like this:
rootS3/UPDATE/PS3UPDAT.PUP
Insert into the right usb port of the PS3 and follow the on screen instructions, hold start and select.
NOW YOU ARE DONE! NO NEED TO CONTINUE WITH THE REST OF THE GUIDE.

you need a card reader for the micro sd. your computer needs a way to read the micro sd. i just went to a local store and bought a card reader. it doesnt have to be the e3 card reader.

His guide is to hard to follow :/ not sure what he's trying to do half the time

No problem I'll explain. After Installing the e3 flasher make sure to update it by placing the update.bin You must login or register to view this content. into the SD card and set the switches on the coverboard to: down,down,up,up,up,up. Turn on ps3 and all blue lights should be solid and not blinking, this tells you update has been successful. Turn off and then restart.
Now this is where Alchybear's video start with backing/dumping your BIOS.
Turn on Ps3 and wait until the HDD light stops flashing or until you get onto XMB. Switches are down,down,UP,down,down,down. Then press start on the coverboard to start back up.
Then afterwards VERIFY VERIFY VERIFY your dump. You must login or register to view this content.
Leave PS3 on.
Save your dumps onto your PC, somewhere safe you might need it if anything goes wrong.
When you feel satisfied
Use Rogero's PS3_Flash_Auto_Patcher_v4.46 :You must login or register to view this content.
Transfer folder onto your desktop
Now, Drag your bkpps3.bin file onto the actual application, don't run application just drag onto the icon, it should start doing its thing. Afterwards "bkpps3_NOR_patched" should pop up in the same folder as application. Rename it to just bkpps3 and transfer it to the SD card. Place SD card onto E3 flasher and all switch DOWN then press start. Should take about 7-10 minutes. Turn off PS3
Place Rogero 4.46CFW onto USB. Turn on PS3 and update the PS3 with Rogero. And your done.
