actually tried both ways with no success. is there a way that the clip would snap in but not be properly seated? i will try tomorrow with a friend
Your clip needs to be installed like this: You must login or register to view this content.
1: esata station with flasher reports no applicable storage device on ps3
Forget about the esata station. Follow my video as a guide.
2: with flasher and hdd connected, will not take any version of the samsung update
The hdd has nothing to do with getting the e3 flasher updated. Make sure the clip is on the chip good. The e3 flasher gets its power from the chip. If you cannot update it from microSD, you can always update it through the PC. Connect a USB to e3 flasher and the PC. Power on the ps3 and you should see a new drive on your computer. Open it and drag in the update.bin. Once you do that you should see all constant blue lights.
3: even after proper NOR seating with and without coins, backup always reports blinking lights on 1 5 and 6
Yeah the infamous "Failed to initialize PS3 BIOS" The clip is not making contact with the chip you will need to add pressure on the clip. You might need to file/sand off a piece of the clip because the resistors on near the CHIP is not letting you flush the CLIP on the CHIP.
With these models I had to do this in order for it to work

Awesome!
few things that I need to point out when I saw your picture
1. Please remove your ps3 off the carpet.
2. The e3 flasher ribbon looks like its being stretched out and this might be the reason why the clip is not making contact with the chip. Please bring the e3 flasher closer or move it on top of the HDD.
3. Please add the metal casing for the e3 flasher. : You must login or register to view this content.
