Ok guys, sorry to be the bearer of bad news but this just in apparently SONY has made it even harder to stay on 3.41. Sony is taking drastic steps as future games will require 3.42 or 3.50 to play period see quote below. Medal of Honor has been confirmed as the first game to implement this security.

"Right now, the piracy and backup-enabling PS3 Jailbreak requires firmware 3.41 to be loaded on the PS3. Sony summarily released a new firmware, 3.42 that killed the exploit. Cheap pirates though opted to stay on the earlier firmware, losing PSN connectivity.

Now their options have been lessened even more.

Looks like new games will be shipping with the new firmware, rendering the Jailbreak useless. EA’s upcoming Medal of Honor has been confirmed to ship with, and require firmware 3.42. Attempts to circumvent the firmware requirement have thankfully proven fruitless, making it seem like Sony’s winning the cat and mouse game at the moment. Those who’ve tried have been greeted with a “80010019″ error message.

It’s pretty inevitable that all anticipated games from now on – Black Ops, GT5 and the like – will include similar protection, making PS3 Jailbreaker’s days of wanton thievery numbered."

I like this whole backing up of games. some of my discs are pretty buggered and they play much better/faster from the hdd. If its compulsory to be updated... thats just shit as.

And amazingly no it wont be the end of the hacking. Technically. if a patch is taken off a xbox.. converted to ps3. then put on the ps3 with ftpsever on fw3.41... they can just data transfer to another ps3 on the current firmware.

Itll still be around..just much less. Smile

I used the quote, not that I agree with it. And it will not be the end because as human nature is to always push the envelope to the next level so I guess we will see what happens down the road. :y:

They can build in functions that new games "require" to run in new firmwares. If you don't have that function game doesn't run.

Quick question, how would future FW then affect say Medal of Honor which will require 3.42 would they have to release a patch for the game to work or say it just needs to read a FW of 3.42 or higher any input??

But isnt that what Xcellerator was saying you could change? the part that is making it "require"the recent firmware... so making it believe 3.41 is the most recent? or am i completely off course here? lol

The question I was asking was not just to change the name, but rather newer FW will have some kind of file implemented that would need to match to w/e FW was used to protect that game.
