Ok guys, sorry to be the bearer of bad news but this just in apparently SONY has made it even harder to stay on 3.41. Sony is taking drastic steps as future games will require 3.42 or 3.50 to play period see quote below. Medal of Honor has been confirmed as the first game to implement this security.

"Right now, the piracy and backup-enabling PS3 Jailbreak requires firmware 3.41 to be loaded on the PS3. Sony summarily released a new firmware, 3.42 that killed the exploit. Cheap pirates though opted to stay on the earlier firmware, losing PSN connectivity.

Now their options have been lessened even more.

Looks like new games will be shipping with the new firmware, rendering the Jailbreak useless. EA’s upcoming Medal of Honor has been confirmed to ship with, and require firmware 3.42. Attempts to circumvent the firmware requirement have thankfully proven fruitless, making it seem like Sony’s winning the cat and mouse game at the moment. Those who’ve tried have been greeted with a “80010019″ error message.

It’s pretty inevitable that all anticipated games from now on – Black Ops, GT5 and the like – will include similar protection, making PS3 Jailbreaker’s days of wanton thievery numbered."

PSP games have been patched for years to run on custom Firmware, this is exactly what they did on PSP games. All anyone needs to do is try looking for ways to pass the security and patch the game. Kind of upsetting seeing Sony doing this so soon, I didn't expect them to actually do anything or could do anything until maybe next year. Either way someone like Xcellerator will figure it out, seems like he already did.

Damn, SONY's got us cornered. Now I won't be able to play LBP2. (I reserved it) Something's gotta be done about this.

There's a difference in making it believe it's on 3.42 and actually running on 3.42.

A bypass has already been found.

* ERASE the Update Folder
* DONT CHANGE ANYTHING IN PARAM.SFO
* GAME MUST BE COPIED USING OBM FROM EXTERNAL TO INTERNAL
* HERMES PATCH NEEDS TO BE ENABLED TO PLAY.
* ENJOY

I would post the source link, but it may be considered advertising. Google is your friend Smile

even if sony does put in some new functions, its only a matter of time before someone figures out how to install those functions into a 3.41 patch thats already installed.

when they MAKE THE GAME, then they might put something in there where you need the fw update. something where the game can read the current fw.

like with 3d games, you need like a 3.30 fw update to play them with 3d, so some of the same properties might apply with that...

I love it. But what is OBM? And what about Hermes patch? What patch is that? You have to patch the game or patch the backup manager? :roll:

Oh wait...obm=Open backup manager? Oh good because I have that.
